Godaddy woes [Rant Warning]

Out of laziness i decided to stick with godaddys slow hosting this year, more fool me. My account has been suspended without warning for causing high load on the shared server. I suspect it is wordpress caching plugins causing the problem but obviously i cannot login to sort it.

It was 3 days before i noticed my account suspension because my affiliate manager called to tell me my site was down. 7days later i am still trying to get some kind of coherent message from godaddy support. 10 days on and my sites have now dropped out of google, im going to loose $100s this month and have to put in extra work to get my sites back up the rankings.

In conclusion, godaddy suck and im a fucking idiot for not moving.

Yep, I use Godaddy for site registration but I host elsewhere. In fact, I have two host companies so that if a server goes down or if I run into trouble I just point to the other hosting company. Being offline is not fun and the few dollars extra for the redundancy is well worth it.

not just hosting, even domain i would avoid godaddy. worst ever! lots better go with name.com, complete admin panel menu but not complicated, also it loads and update dns faster than godaddy. IMHO

GoDaddy are near the top of the list of SHIT internet firms which any one serious about their sites and domains should stay away from. Two thumbs down to this crowd of ass bandits.

Godaddy sucks, its a well know fact and you didn't move so you're an idiot. Thumbs up to hostgator for hosting and internetbs.net for domains, you get the quality you pay for.
And if you permanently lost all your data, be quick to save everything from Google's cache. Search for all your webpages using site: operator and then just copy down the url slug and all the content on the new host. You can outsource if the site is big. Until you keep delivering good content to Google, it will keep a backup of everything on your website. Though you may get some old data if webpage was bot cached recently, but still its well worth than loosing out everything.

GoDaddy is terrible. I have been through similar situation and I regretted sticking with them in the first place. You're definitely better off moving to other web hosts.

Just go for Hostgator..

They become problematic on shared hosting if you start using too many resources.

Sorry to hear about you loses. If you make $$$$ a month maybe is good time to get VPS and have no problems anymore???

I do not want to offens anyone but if you are that high positioned as having an affiliate manager then you should be making enough bucks to afford a VPS or a dedicated server in which you have real no limits...

I have been using GoDaddy for domain registration for many years and I never had a problem with them. As for the hosting side I do not know about their services because I use HostGator.

Yes HostGator also closes the sites but I wonder if anyone has read the both firms' TOS (Terms of Service)? They always tell this fact clearly. If you are using a shared server, even a reseller account your services have limits as CPU usage, mail sending per hour and so on. That's why these sites go down.

If you can afford it buy a VPS or dedicated and live in peace, if not your affiliate manager is somehow unsuccessful one and leave him. And try implenting some CPU usage reducing methods on your site.

I've been hosting with them (godaddy) for a long time and never any issues *yet*. But each day I am waiting for it. My newb question is I've been copying files by copy/all and dropping them into my external hard drive once a week so if i get canceled i can go elsewhere. Is this the best way to copy files and is it efficient from their shared server plan...there is no cpanel? Usually I let it run overnight and they're all copied.

2nd, someone mentioned redundancy. Can i then copy all those files from my hardrive onto another server that i own and then if there's any problems I can just point all the IPs to the new nameserver?

Any help is appreciated....

The best way to protect yourself from account cancellation is moving somewhere else...

Why wait for problems if you can prevent them?

I would move my site to another hosting space if I were you.
And I would simply recommend HostGator...

I register with GoDaddy but host with Lunarpages. In the past when I started using to many resources, Lunarpages would shut down the file or folder they thought was causing it and asked me to fix it. One time they did that to me and I just changed a little code I was working on that may of been looping, and I changed the file name and had it up in running again in minutes. I emailed them and told them what I thought was the problem and they cleared to blocking of the file.

When they block whole folders, it is a little more difficult, you cant get into them to find a problem, but at least all the other addons are still running. The few times I had that problem I was testing a penny auction, had crons going off like crazy, site was reloading several times a second, then there was emails being sent on every reload, every cron, something was screwed in the script, so when they blocked it, I did not care.

Anyway, I have some 80 domains registered at GoDaddy and no problems, even as I let them expire, they dont harass me, since most I got at a discount you would think they would not be too happy. Saying that, they just put them up for auction and try and sell them based on prior traffic, so they try and benefit, like all the others do.

LOL, thanks for the laugh Newnetworks! Another thing you need to watch for is Godaddy will go in and set your domains to auto-renew after you have set them to manual renew! I found this out the other day when I was checking my domains with Godaddy and saw several domains had been set to auto-renew when I know they were set at manual renew as I set all my domains for manual renew so I don't end up renewing domains I no longer want. I only have a few domains with Godaddy now and need to get them moved! I let myself get suckered into them again with those damn 99Cent sales! However I will NEVER host anything with them!
