Should I start a web designing company?

Another thing I recommend is stay in school, develop your web design site throughout school get your name out there and maybe get a few clients. If the work gets to be to much just be the middle man and outsource your work. Get a feel for the industry before quitting school and starting into it.

Never leave you study.... I did this mistake in past , when I was in MBA. First complete your education then go for business.

Or You can start freelancing now as per your convince to gain knowledge and of course money. These work will really help you to start your business.

Join the BlackHat University where you'll find actual practitioners to teach you on latest methods.

Search torrent sites for training materials on coding. Organize group buys in forums for any training materials priced above your reach. And be disciplined to train yourself.

Studying coding in a traditional brick and mortar university is a waste of time. They teach outdated stuff. Once you graduate you'll find yourself once again scourging the net for cutting edge stuff.

If you have to go to college go study something else like law or finance.

Why not just keep educating yourself in this field of study at your leisure, and switch your college major to something more interesting to you?

You need to learn the skills for this field online, via your own experience anyway. Doing something completely different at college would give you a second area of knowledge to use (if need be) and might be fun.

i see it as college = studying so i can prove to someone else i'm capable of making THEM money.

once you have your own business it will probably do you little good.
that is not to say you shouldn't have something to fall back on. and yea, your in your first 2 years and all the classes make you want to kill yourself out of bordem or irrelevancy.

it's better to do it than not at this point.

bottom line for me though, college may be the most fun you will EVER have in your life!

run the business on the side, scope students who you think are good at web design too to start a biz with, or pay them under what you get paid and leverage them for $$gains, but DON'T FORGET TO HAVE FUN!

also remember, everyone goes to college. it won't really give you any advantage. remember to try things few are doing, thats how you get ahead in life. the guy that works hard in a huge company is similar to millions. the man who invented one tiny thing like a windshield wiper, made millions, cause his work/output was DIFFERENT. find a way to stand out, go above and beyond your competition, or market yourself or just find the demand.

From the UK, have a degree (24 now) and yes its not given me anything in a finanical sense but life experience, meeting people on its own educated me obsorbing from other intelligent people really grows you mentally. You'll still be young when you leave so get sgoing with this as a side project offer a few small companies free or cheap web design and get them to sign through your hostagor etc aff link. You profit and get a portfolio to work with when you qualify. Be smart and stay there!

Stay in school and free lance. Once you quit school its tough to go back and you'll never have that degree. And in the real world if all things are equal a company will hire the person with the degree first.

We are professional web designers. There's 6 of us in the office. If you want to start a web design company then go for it. The thing to remember is that you won't just start a company and make money with it straight away. It's likely to take a few years before it really starts to take off. Ask yourself, how long can you afford to spend working on website, whilst you are at college/university?

If it's anything like the UK, most degree courses only have a few hours contact time each day. the rest of the time is for you to work. You can easily 'get through' the course, and you'll have that all important piece of paper at the end of it which will allow you to get proper jobs should something go wrong with the web design company.

I actually trained as an actor before going off to look for web work but couldn't find any. I went and got a second degree which allowed me to get the work. I learned nothing on that course and taught myself what I know but the important thing was getting that bit of paper at the end of it.

I'm still doubting about what to do. I really just want to stop this course because I feel like I could learn everything I learn on there within a year on my own.

Also I'm not sure if I actually want to start a company anymore. I've been having quite a lot of success with one of my websites recently (made about 500$ in the last 17 days) and I feel like I could make a lot more if I spend more time on scaling this up (creating more websites).

I've also read some thread about people having success with various techniques are very interesting imo and I'd like to try some of them and see if I'm successful with any of those.

What would you all advice me? My dad thinks I would be wasting my time not getting a degree while I think I'm wasting time ON getting a degree.

As for the people who tell me to do a web design company on the side. This isn't really possible with the time I have available right now as I spend most of my day at school.

I'm running out of time deciding what to do because 'if' I want to stop with college I must let my school know before the end of 2010 (because the government will give me back the money I've paid so far)

Be a man and do both. There is nothing that stops you in doing so. If you succeed you will develop nice and efficient working habits that will help you later in life (organizing, time efficiency, hiring/firing)

I am 22 and just finished my engineering degree.If you are in India and if you dont get into major IT companies like TCS or Infosys,then as a fresher you will earn less than 250$ per month as a regular job.

So you will feel it is much better to earn more through freelancing than go for 9 to 5 job.

you are just 17 .Going to college will give you a taste of real,dark world that we live in.
It is much different from your school days.College life will give you experiences on how to deal with people ,various situations in life etc....even though you may not go for job related to course you are studying...college degree is a must.

Don't quit college, I did website design back when my kids was younger and starting out you want make alot of money. Plus having that degree, if you are going to college for that will look alot better on your resume and attract more clients. But there is no reason why you can't do it on a part time basis and grow your portfolio up.
