Link building for brand new sites

so i have been building sites for a while now and i usually lunch then and leave them for about 6 months to a year before i do any major link building. as i have tryed to build links for new sites and have only ever had it effect them in a negative way for SERPs

so

my question is ..
what do you think i should do for a new fresh site i have launches and how many is to many backlinks in the beginning?

What do you do? have you had good resaults?

i was thinking of just putt up 30 web 2.0 sites such as squidoo and link back from them and just leaving it for a while.. what do you think about that?

so really i ques there are three questions but all answers would be helpful. thanks

Age isnt relevant as far as link building is concerned. Its how long google has indexed your site. Ive had a domain from 1999 that was sandboxed after building a few hundred backlinks.

My suggestion: build links slowly, under 500 links per month (Thats what seems to be the magic number for me). Hope it helps.

i was thinking a 2 or 3 high back links per day. i have have tried to do 10 per day and been slapped many times.. so are you saying you have had success building this fast?

yes i meant how long it has been indexed for.

I usually wait until the site has been indexed before I do progressive back linking.
Once indexed I agree with pixelfinder I usually build around 500 back links and then progressively increase this maintaining momentum after the first month.

Take my advice, go crazy with backlinks man.. at least a few thousand PER WEEK. I have NEVER gotten delisted from Google.

Sure you can take months to do this, but your just wasting time and money. Trust me, this could be the best advice anyone has given you.

BTW i would love to see proof that the sites you built links for too fast got deindexed or delisted... you can pm me them or something if you dont want to share..

2-3 backlinks will not be enough... You are planning good with web 2.0... You can promote them heavily without risking your site. For site just be consistent with your link building campaign, keep diversity with anchor texts, urls... Regular update on site and you will not face sandbox problem. Also in start press release and article submission will be good idea they do any harm to site even if you do them in big numbers.

I think you can post 25-30 backlinks at the beginning though your site is new.
Not only web 2.0 sites you have to build links via forums,blogs,article,directories,press release(if possible) etc.
You can increase the no of backlinks to 50 per day after a month.

very interesting guys.. well i have been playing by the rules of Brian Johnson as this is were i learnt form for the past few years and he is all about launching a number small niche sites and not back-linking to hard in the beginning..

i wasnt saying my sites have been de indexed i was just talking about going from 1st or second page to 6th page in google when i start backing harder than 2-3 times in the begining.

from what i can see you guys are saying to go alot harder so maybe i will do so. i just purchased alex goads rank builder as i needed to post web 2.0 quicker and they are mentioning 15-20 links per day.

so if you guys think this is the case i guess i will have to take the risk and give it a go, although i have about 200 sites and this may be alittle harder than it sounds.

by the way i think that alex goads new product is great.. it has a profile maker, article subission, link wheel, web 2.0 and social book marking software. $77 a month. not to bad. although the training is not great but they are apparently bringing out more videos to learn how to use the software.

anyways thanks for all your opinions on link building.. keep them comming

another question that was on my mind relating to this is.. lets say you are building 200 per month for 2 months and then stop.. does this have a negative effect and if so at what point can you stop building?

mate , I launch about 1 site / month, indeed mostly affiliate marketing so in order to get sales ASAP I start backlinking them immediately via all major sources. I was quite crammed with the work but since I outsorced that part the sales are steady and I can simply use my time to make more sites. So far I sold 5 of the ones that ranked high because my guys brought them onto google first page via live links on answer sites, bookmarks, reviews and cool social networking.

all I can say that I let them do their thing and get the cash. backlinking is the key mate..don't wait and get on it, money will appear in no time.

I think consistency is the key. 100 a month for 5 months is better than 500 in 1 month and then nothing, imho

Uploaded the wp theme created the menus and in about 24 hours the site had 20 pages. before they even got indexed with some xrumer blasts and Sb blasts the site has 5300 links 240 indexed pages. I'm in page 1 for 8 keywords and for the most important 3 in today in page 2 in G all over the world and in first page of bing and yahoo. Im not outranking anyone. This are Seo companies, thousands of them even pr4-7 while my page is PR0. I found a way to avoid getting sandboxed, as I said in one of my posts, firstly I thought it was a glitch in G, but its not. It depends on how smartly you build the links and how much you know about seo. It also depends on how frequently you add content to your site.

you honestly think you got deindexed for building 10/day? thats not realistic at all. think about when someone writes a popular blog post, hundreds or thousands of people will link to that site as it "goes viral". do these sites get deindexed? no, they get rewarded for writing popular content. if all it took were 10 links/day to get deindexed, everybody would be building that many links/day to their competitors and eliminating the competition, which is why its actually much harder to get deindexed than most people think. i build a couple thousand links per day to my sites and have never once been deindexed. im sure its possible, but not something i would worry too much about. in general, the more links you can build, the better

Because I was able to rank for competition in quotes 300.000-1.000.000 in top 5 with a TOTAL of 20-50 links. Like get 10-15 in the first month and then 2 or 5 each month... It really amazes me reading those advice of 1000s of link a month... Of course my links I am talking about are usually link trades so somehow quality sites and not just 20-50 of profile links or random spam blog comments. Maybe there is the differet approach.. In my experience 2-3 a DAY is quit decent, actually very very decent linking. I never did that much.

Yeah, I think it's pretty obvious these guys are in some pretty competitive markets.

As for the OP.

That just sounds like the G Dance. Not sandboxing or anything else.

I wouldn't worry about it that much.

Whatever backlinking you do, make sure you mix it up and keep it consistent.

And I would never wait 6-12 months before doing any backlinking to a site. I surely can't believe you do the same. If you do, don't. Get started right away man.

Personally, I get started right away, but I don't blast hundreds or thousands of links right away either.

The short answer is, yes. It does have an effect.

A lasting and negative effect? That depends on what your competition is doing.

Stop, when you can categorically say, you OWN that keyword.

Changed metatags almost every 3 days, mainly page title description and keywords.

I havent used Strong tag or H3 but I will as soon as I get to page 1 for my main keywords.

like you said, it depends on the competition. if you are competing for a keyword and none of the top 10 google results have the keyword in the title, h1 tags, description, or have a high keyword density, than 50 links may be enough as long as your on-page seo is intact. but when youre competing for a keyword where all of the top 10 sites have optimized on-page seo for that keyword, thousands of backlinks pointing to that page, and hundreds of thousands of backlinks pointing to their site, 50 links isn't going to cut it. for those, i typically add 1000-3000 backlinks per day.

When doing any link building, keep this in mind.

Google rewards realistic link growth trends.

Is 3000 links a day realistic? Absolutely, as long as it is spread across a number of methods. If Google sees a site which has had no links for a year get 3000 links coming JUST from WordPress blogs, it will know something is up. If anew site is launched, and it gets 2000 links from a number of blog platforms, links from web 2.0 properties and blog networks, it creates the illusion of genuine viral traffic.

There will never be a golden rule for when and how many links to build. But there is no "default penalty" for building a realistic number of links immediately after a sites launch.
