what the best ecommerce platform?

need help in choosing the best open source ecommerce platform
I want to start my online shop and sell clothes
I dont know which platform to use?
Does any one can recomend one i think of using prestashop
What do u guys think?

Prestashop is quite good and the community is constantly growing.
Very easy to use and customize too.

The others idk but I heard a lot of good things about Magento.

If the requirements are simple. Just go with wordpress with shopping plugin

Magento. But if you are not a techie person don't use any of these. Go with an online community where you just have to add products to their pre-installed stores.

Opencart is great! I use that when I am building websites.

i also suggest you joomla with virtuemart or oscommerce.

joomla has a lot of extension and virtuemart is one of the best (free). you can do a good job with seo and find great communities all over the world. oscommerce is a strong and very stable base if you have many products.

magento is growing well, but i think it is too much unstable yet and it eats tons of resources from your hosting server. or you have a very good one or you will have problems with magento

at least that's my opinion

I think Magento is great for ecommerce platform, and wordpress is good for decent brochure websites.

Thanks for starting this thread extra! It couldn't have come at a better moment because I've found myself hired on to help with the SEO of a Prestashop platform site. Literally NO indexation, because there was a freakin' 'noindex' robot on every page!

I thought they may have hired someone on who left on a bad note a left them a little going away present, but as it turns out it was a self-inflicted NIrobot lol

They have some tech ability, but they're sellers not programmers. Their concern was that they had to do it to prevent duplicate content issues... They're also using a canonical tag... idk the massive disconnect here has just thrown me for a huge loop.

My first natural inclination is to axe that robot... but this is a new platform to me and the lengths they went to under the weight of the duplicate content boogyman has me a bit spun.

Sooooo, can anyone step in and shed some light on this inside out scenario?

What in Prestashop causes the duplicate content (if it is really even a concern or something simply borne of their paranoia)?

Does the rel=canon have place or negative impact?

Finally, if either of the 2 Q's above are concerns, what can I do to make everything right with them?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, I love BHW for being such an amazing place to help one another.

I just say: pay attention to magento as it is too easy to crash and loose the dbase...

it is nice and powerful, but maybe too young and the support team is payed to solve problems... so i wonder if there will be ever a stable and an easy version of magento....

Well I just spent a few months experimenting with several. I'm a web developer and wanted something for a personal site.

In the end I settled on a combination of Phpurchase, Gravity Forms on the WordPress platform.

Magento - Way too much for my needs, steep learning curve, totally proprietary language, overly complicated but not bad
Zen cart - Used this years ago and it's just outdated and not that great imo
3dcart - Not bad for a hosted solution
Interspire - Used the cracked one here and it was nice too, but I wanted more control over some minro things like the design.

So then I found PHPurchase, which integrates with Gravity Forms and they are freakin awesome.

depends on what you need. Oscomerce and zenkart are the top ones. With magento having the best looks

I think easiest is Yahoo Stores... $40 per month, but all the hard stuff like inventory management, CMS, Shipping Options, Payment integration including PayPal, Affiliate systems, reporting, order fulfillment, UPS integration, etc... all built and admin panel managed. If you are comfortable with HTML, CSS, and Google analytics & Webmaster tools it is possible to be up and running in a weekend. I've used them before for e-commerce projects and it has always worked without hassles.

I really like tomatocart... I was in the same boat looking for an e-commerce solution for my boss not too long ago. I think it is the least confusing of the bunch and the sleekest/easiest. A very underrated open source platform...

Open Cart is a good script and getting better with the growing community. I use it for one site. I also currently use Oscommerce, albeit it works, and has the most add-ons, it's not the most efficient.
