Does anyone know why people are going around thanking every single poster in certain threads here at bhw? I mean, beyond the point of it being annoying, is there any real reason to jack up your number of thanks given? These people tend to have 0 posts too.

Were you referring to the use of the "Thanks" button

, or simply replying to a post or a thread by saying "Thank you for this post"?

Ahh... perhaps a new member whose ID begins with Madxxxxxxx..

:)

Holy crap...146 Thanks...zero posts and zero everything else....wtf...lol

Uptownbulker and WP....you have demonstrated this perfectly in this thread...haha...thats the best part about the thread so far :)

...and why do i get the feeling that very shortly this thread or some other thread will become "the thank you thread" where everyone gets like 30 thank yous...haha

LMAO - First a post about different donor badges based on contribution amount, then this post about a misused thanks button. What's next? (that's rhetorical; don't answer!)

BTW - To see who's *really* making contributions, look for 'thanks per post'. For example, I have 7 thanks / 7 posts = 1. This is pretty much as low as you can get. While I am 'thankful', these thanks are often responses to my thanking or commenting on someone elses contribution (I need to contribute more LOL). Now take someone who has 65 thanks / 13 posts = 5. A number this high assures you that the poster has been thanked numerous times by many different people.

I figured I'd take a minute to point out the obvious.

i thank people whenever i like the post, whether it's helpful or it gives me a laugh...

why do we have to be greedy about giving thanks?

Well, lately I have been always telling people if they find my posts useful, I will post a"thanks appreciated". Since most of the time, we only got leechers lurking around and noboby is actually grateful to you if you post something helpful.

Keep complaining HaRRo might start another "Worlds biggest thank you thread"

Here's a little spoof I wrote a while back when the forum got hacked. Back then, the vulnerability was found to be in the thanks button, so it was disabled. Everyone lost their accumulated thanks points. Lot's of grumbling. Then it returned. Lots of applause.

My spoof was tongue-in-cheek, but I think my cheeks were a tad too chubby for this to be evident at the time...

The title, which I forgot to put originally,

but had written...

and consecrated in my files...

brought me no peace...

for the public disfigurement...

of my my masterpiece.

But now...

with this timely thread...

the tide has turned...

the wrong has been righted.

Righted, I say!

And on this solemn occasion...

it is my honor and pleasure...

to declare to the world...

and all people throughout history...

that the title is...

(drum roll...)

Ta daa!!!

THE THANKS BUTTON

The little thanks button took a hike
And frustrated all the cranks
Who used to use it as a whip
To dole out petty spanks.

And jokers cast a wistful eye
Because their plans drew blanks
Without a button they could push
They had to stop their pranks.

Still those like you and me were sad
We couldn't see our ranks
Of gratitude from those we helped
Who button pushed their thanks.

So what a joy to look around
And see that lost has now been found.
And celebrate with words and sound

The return of the Almighty Thanks Button!
Long live the Almighty Thanks Button!
I love you Almighty Thanks Button!

Thanks!
