Hello all,

So, I started a job in April this year. As per the client, we deleted the old website (someone was doing SEO on this) and created a fresh new website (on WP) with new pages for their services and separate city pages.

- Took backup of the old URLs (for 301 purposes or just in case)
- Did keyword research and competitor analysis and started working on the documentation (content structure and all)
- Months passed, but our major keywords were not even in the top 100, A few keywords, such as service in low-tier city and service in low-tier city 2, started ranking. Very low to Nil search volume, but I had some hope.
- Our website was hacked, and someone published those Pharma blogs.
- Fixed that and started focusing on social media & local SEO (citations and all); within some time, our major keywords showed us in the top 3 in GMB rankings.

My main concern is these major keywords aren't still ranking my web pages on top. As per my competitor analysis, I found -

- Most competitors have low word-count content
- Very few backlinks

But are still ranking.

What exactly should I do now? Soon that's going to be a year with no major outcome.

P.S. - I am employed somewhere, and now my livelihood is at stake.
P.S.1 - I know this might not be appropriate information that I have shared, but can't share the URL here. Can DM definitely.
P.S.2 - Here's the screenshot of my SEMrush account showing those keyword's difficulty level and my position. I do not rank on #25. It shows my homepage on the keywords that I have a specific page built.

I'm not an SEO expert, so I can't help much.

I hope someone can guide you.

Do you have a tool like Surfer SEO, analyze your competition keywords then check how your blog post is matching up to theirs. If it's not matching up, then rewrite your blog post to include these keywords. Then repost your article. This is one thing that I would suggest you do so far.

Any info on the domains historic backlinks? hows it perform in page insights?

Not much backlinks in the past. Just some business listings.

these factors work together to improve your website's overall performance in search engine rankings. It's important to approach SEO holistically, focusing on providing value to your users while also optimizing for search engines. Keep in mind that SEO is an ongoing process, and it's important to monitor and adjust your strategies over time.

I use SEMRush and as per my analysis websites ranking on top do not have much content and only just few keywords.
Most of those website do not even have backlinks. Still ranking on #1 page.

I am getting these activities done -

Image sharing
Quora
Web 2.0
Guest Posting
1-2 articles per month
PPT submissions

and other local SEO activities.

Maybe I should just work on Local SEO, Guest Posting and Web 2.0 properties?

What about your articles, try creating more blog posts related to your niche and pointing it to your main page. Make sure you are doing some good internal linking.

Have you taken the time to verify whether the page or post you published is indexed in Google? It's an important step to ensure that your content is visible and accessible to the online audience. Furthermore, have you checked the Google Search Console (GSC) for the result? This tool can provide you with invaluable insights about your website's visibility on Google.

In addition, it's crucial to examine the structure of your links. There are instances when removing the 'www.' part of your domain can lead to changes in search results. This seemingly small detail can significantly impact how your website performs in search rankings, so it's worth paying attention to.

Another important aspect to consider is your robot.txt file. This file plays a vital role in guiding search engine bots on which parts of your site to crawl and index. Make sure it's not blocking Google's bot from accessing your site. This is especially important if you're using a platform like Wordpress, which sometimes blocks these bots by default.
Thanks ChatGPT

Yes, I regularly check GSC. Most of my pages are indexed.

What exactly do you mean in your 2nd point? If my website is using www, my backlinks must link to the www part?

Sharing screenshots of my GSC test (took just now) and the robots.txt file -

yes, 2 blogs posts a week.

My team builds some backlinks for the blogs posts as well (social bookmarking, using secondary links in article/web 2.0 and guest posts).

Do link building. Maybe site is just miss some good links as that most of time help.

I assume by good links, you mean paid Guest Posting.

Is that so? Or some other stuff too?

It was need of the hour. I can't explain more to you.

Moreover, when I got the website metrics were too low. Those activities for sure gave boost to some metrics.

Most probably, these won't be executed anymore.

It's difficult to diagnose the real issues without actually checking the website & It's competitors.

But I think it could be somewhere between branding & the pharma hack issue you mentioned in OP.

I have got few questions:

Are all the top spots taken by similar local business websites?

How are you & your competitors in terms of authority, what's Ahrefs DR, RD, BL counts?

How old are you & your competitors?

How are you & your competitors in terms of branding like gmb, review platforms, local listing sites?
