Which crypto exchange/online crypto wallet is most reliable? As i want to send 66% of my crypto to two other crypto exchanges as to not worry if something happens to Binance.

all are reliable until they say funds are "SAFU"

Use metamask/ledger as a cold wallet, transfer to Coinbase or Kraken when needed to exchange in FIAT.

Wait metamask and ledger are cold wallets???

cold wallets are which are not suppose to connect to internet or at least for most part of their life.
e.g. a paper wallet, a ledger etc
Hot wallets are always connected or most part of their life are connected online.
e.g all user wallets on exchanges, metamask, trust wallet etc

HTH

So I should buy a ledger, but isn't it more risky to have an offline wallet as you might lose it somewhere?

Ledger has 24 words seeds, you just need to take record of those words and keep safe. Even if you lost ledger it is nto a big deal. you can use your 24 words on trust wallet to recover your funds. There are some issues with multiwallets on ledger to import to trust wallet but mostly it works :)

Use a ledger to keep your crypto, yes, it is as long as you keep your words offline (on paper for example and never interact with the online world)

Connect with the Ledger on Metamask to use DeFi.
Send from ledger to CEX to cash out in FIAT if you want to.

I don't ever hold more than like 30k$ in crypto and my friend just told me now that cold wallet transaction fees are high

Cold wallet providers do not charge fees, is just a cold wallet. If you interact in Ledger Live with their partners to swap tokens/coins, then yes, they will charge extra.

That's why I told you earlier how you can interact with DeFi and CeFi.

Try to do a bit of research, don't play with crypto, it's irreversible.

for few 30k is a life time earnings and for some this is dust in their accounts :) Fee are little higher in cold wallets as compared to exchange wallets. Exchanges send multiple transactions in one go and it makes fee low. While in your own wallet like trust/meta or ledger you have to burden full fee in your one transaction.

HTH (you can like posts to encourage for more efforts on my end).

This really depends on which country you're in, but I have personally found ByBit to be my current favorite for spot purchases of BTC/ETH. Fees are much lower than the larger exchanges like Binance/Coinbase & so far - it's been quite reliable. However as the others said above, you should probably still self custody your coins through a hardware wallet - as we saw in 2022, even the most seemingly reliable exchanges might be hiding things about their operations e.g excessive leverage, unbacked customer deposits.

Kraken also has quite a good reputation. I used Gemini once or twice, but again - fees were a little higher.

Ultimately remember that crypto on an exchange is just a record, it's not actual ownership of any funds. Your money in your bank account is more yours, than the crypto on an exchange, because money in the bank often has (some) government guarantee in the event of failure. Crypto has no such thing.

NO Crypto Exchange is reliable! your Funds are not SAFU, Try Hardware wallets

In terms of safest EXCHANGE as you asked in your question, it's Binance.
If Binance were to exit scam or steal funds, it wouldn't even matter if you were keeping funds in there or elsewhere, because it would destroy the market and crash it for a long time.

Whether they lock your account / have issues, is another topic entirely.

OLD DEEP FREEZE TECHNIQUE:
  1. Buy a cheap laptop (new, not old).
  2. Download an open source wallet.
  3. Disconnect the Internet to the laptop. Better, destroy its LAN card. :p
  4. Generate a key/wallet.
  5. Copy the "View only" Public key from the laptop to a wallet on a different device.
  6. Use that "View only" wallet to receive all the funds online.
  7. Never touch the cheap Laptop again. Unless the sky is falling and you want to liquidate your funds.
Caution: Research more before using this method.

I have a Ledger Nano, and it's enough for the types of crypto I own (2 BTC wallets and one ETH). If you hold different assets, you should look into wallets with more disk space
