Tech companies hire too many people during good times with low interest rates (basically, they take huge money loans) But because the feds are upping the rate, tech companies need to downsize.

Truth is, most huge tech companies can run with a much tighter workforce. But when times are good, hiring more to "accelerate" progress or make the lives of certain people easier (work divided over more people) is attractive to them.
