As much as I understand then that option will be given soon to everyone as in Musk's mind that's the way to combat bots (what he is saying for some time now).

Mashable today:

Previously Twitter verification was free, and only granted to "notable" accounts that are of public interest such as those belonging to "prominently recognized individual or brands." In this way it helped combat disinformation by confirming that yes, that really was Donald Trump tweeting "covfefe," and no, @RealTaylorSwift isn't actually the real Taylor Swift.

The ability to purchase verified status would essentially render this tool useless, allowing any user to impersonate absolutely anybody with Twitter's stamp of approval. Musk is aware of this problem but apparently unconcerned, believing that such impersonation already occurs "very frequently."

It's still fine.

Whoever paid for verification now will have the "public figure" tag on their account.

Although the impact of the tag will be much much less, they still got a one-up on everyone.

Why is the forum giving this straight line through the text?

Not even formatting helps :D

Anyway, the article:

Guys, we’re talking about Elon Musk, a billionaire. He could very well implement a blue tick for paying verification and then another badge for celebrities.

Exactly. He's a smart one. Once everyone is done running after the blue tick, bam! He will add another badge for celebrities and milk them even more. :D

He’s gotta make money back on his investment which is the obvious, but combat bots? That’ll empower certain bots if anything. We all know how bots work & can deceive

I don't see celebrities paying anything to be honest.. if anything then Elon needs to pay them to use Twitter and not the other way around.

If I have influence then I bring millions to Twitter to read my tweets.. nobody is going to pay him. At least not celebrities.

In a few months time, There will be a Musk Cult Tag for $10

He could easily implement Reddit style paid avatars and awards.

Actually awards for tweets aren't a bad idea.. in Reddit it makes finding quality posts a lot easier.

Musk also mentioned he’s revisiting the requirements for obtaining the blue tick. Knowing musk, he’s going to make it easier to obtain so that more people buy the Twitter Blue or whichever program he’s making cheaper.

I don’t see this all going as well as he hopes.

This shouldn't have happened, and my sympathies go out to the folks who spent real money to get the blue tick.

I really hope this doesn't set a precedent for other social media sites.

Anyway, I will not be for everyone, it's impossible, so it's still ok

Yeah, they will just buy the blue tick. So if I'm running a bot farm to push an agenda and I need a blue tick, I'll just pay $8/month for each account. He's milking bot farms, easy money, and he know they'll pay it too.

I think it is a high possibility, considering they are going most likely integrate Crypto & Twitter closely together.
