Upwork just not happening??

Hey everyone,

I'm about to lose it. Any advice is appreciated.

11 years in web development I decided to re-activate my old Upwork freelancer account with zero work history and bought the Freelancer Plus plan.

Week 1) I sent about 10 proposals, Got 4 interview requests. Closed 1 small job for $4.50. 5-star feedback. 9 profile views
Week 2) 15 proposals, 1 interview request. Closed the deal for $100. 5-star feedback. 2 profile views. Pretty excited at this point because now I have $100+ in earnings.
Week 3 12 proposals, 0 interview request. 0 profile views
Week 4) 17 proposals, 0 interview request. 0 profile views

What the hell is going on? I follow every single guide on how to write a proposal. Profile is filled with portfolio items. Right keywords in the title and description. Oh and I boost each proposal with 15 credits. Nobody ever outbids them. I also include my website portfolio link in there. Google Analytics shows 0 referral traffic.

Upwork support tells me my profile is "not" blacklisted and that I need enhance it more. Really? I feel like the algorithm is playing games with me.

Well, as always, keep spamming COUGHsendCOUGH proposals. That's just the name of the game.

If you send 1 million proposals, I bet you will get a couple of jobs.

I think you are submitting on high comptions work proposals, so try to lower up your price and see if you can land more jobs.
 
Here's my cover letter which I use for the last 2 months.

On average, I land a job every 7 proposals. Sometimes even 3 out of 7, but that's rare.

As for your profile, it's pure SEO. Put in all the words people want to see, and make sure you keep your response time <12 hours.

Also, one important aspect.

Never submit a proposal for a project that's been posted for more than 12-14 hours. Ideally, I go with less than 5-6 hours.

Dedicate one hour a day when you hunt them down, and always be among the first to apply.

Keep at it, Upwork is a goldmine.

Thanks guys! I will keep on trying. A friend of mine also told me that Upwork ranks freelancers differently once you make over $1k from a few different clients. Fingers crossed.

May I ask you, how much are you making from Upwork per month (net proft)
 
Your job proposal probably sucks. Everybody follows the guides. I worked at a recruitment agency, everyone's cover letters looks the same. Just make it personal and VERY enthusiastic. No artistic stuff. Use headings, lists and bullet points so they can scan your proposal easily. Make them have a good feeling after reading your short but to the point proposal that states clear benefits and why you are the best for the job (make it personal, it is never the 'best' getting the job, show that you are hungry and work your butt off to make them happy).

I got almost 50% job interviews on proposals sent. This was for long term jobs and my pricing was on the low end. Being a girl probably helps. (Make sure your profile pic is nice and professional)

It is also possible they are just looking for the cheapest, most accessible offer. Maybe you seem overqualified?
 
You have a very good point. For that exact reason, I actually bought a Udemy course for writing advanced proposals :) My hourly rate is a bit on the higher end and I might be overqualified for some jobs or they simply find my rate too much. On the other hand, the Udemy course also thought me how to vet out a clients. For example, I stay away from clients who spent $5k+ with avg rate paid is like $12/hr. These are the cheapos. Any client who pays $30+/hr on avg is perfect for me.
 
Hahaha an Upwork client just told me that he wants to move forward. I had sent the proposal two weeks ago and he just got back to me. Thank you guys! :)

I don't work so often anymore, because I got an 8hour/day contract which pays nice.

But before this, average was close to $4,000 per month for 8-10 hours a day work. That's around 12 jobs developing scrapers in python.

Correct and no typos. I was getting pissed and sending out proposals for $3/hr to close any kind of deal. It was my very first job on Upwork and the client gave me a 5-star review lol. Next client paid $100 for 5 mins of work.
