Depends on what you're planning to do with the laptop.

If you're not into video rendering/editing, I doubt you will feel any difference in terms of productivity whether you are using a 2016 MacBook pro or the latest M1 version.

I had a 2017 MacBook Pro but the battery was kind of damaged and also the keyboard was broken and bad
I got the new one 2 weeks ago and it’s really good
The new „old“ keyboard is the best thing for me because the butterfly one from the 2017 was terrible
The m1 Chip is definitely good but I don’t really did some graphic work etc where the chip is good for

I read m1 chips can’t do virtualization stuff yet, so check for that if you need it.

It is really fast, no doubt in this. The features they deliver is known best for battery and operating.

Im using a M1, im very very impressed with the battery life and performance.

For ref in photoshop : M1 beat my ryzen system 5800x with 32gb ram and a gtx 2080 for opening 300dpi files ( its about twice as fast ).

also the battery literally lasts all day and then some, its amazing.

Other than that its not a gaming powerhouse but can run games like WoW and probably others without issue as long as they can run on M1.

If i had to buy it again though, i would probably wait till M2 at this point.

I purchased a M1 Macbook Pro a month ago. It's great, such a nice operating system & so quick.
The battery life is incredible.

Let me start off by saying, the MacBook M1 is the best MacBook they have released since a long time. They moved from intel to using their own CPU. Usually that transition is very tough, so many companies won't make a bold move as this, but Apple did really well. It is such a powerful laptop and the Apple ecosystem is just amazing. I wonder what their next version of the CPU will have in store.

I like being on Dual Core processor and like the performance. At least I have saved myself from scams of Intel company and Microsoft as they keep launching new products. And you know that IBM is developing Quantum computing.

Macbook m1 == Mac mini m1, while the later one being much cheaper. In general, m1 processors are beautiful. Never seen such a powerful machine that runs on so low power (my test showed around 6watts while idle, and around 12watts max while doing stuffs). I am honestly waiting for m2 and beyond to release, so that I can swap my current one with something more powerful.
