Hi folks.

I have a new website which has no backlinks or page authority. Currently creating content. Looking to build about 30-40 pages of content on it.

Haven't been around this forum in a few years. What backlink strategies work these days to build SERP performance ?

guest posts mostly. When your site starts ranking and get some authority you will want to diversify the backlinking profile by adding blog comments, profile links, .edu backlinks, web 2.0s and so on. But in the beginning, getting a few (3-5) backlinks per month for a few months is a good strategy.

After 8 months i could rank it on top 10 for my main keyword without a pbn link. I am finding new long tail keywords everyday . So tiered link building works. Just make sure to use it right. Never outsource. There is more risk and harm than automation honestly. You never know how they gonna treat your backlink profile. So do it yourself if you are small scale

@sestikumar When you say GSA tiered linking, you are referring to GSA only backlinks, or a combination of RankerX and GSA?

Can you please share a simple example of your tiers? I know very well GSA but never understood why you need tiers when you can use some engines (with your selected list of sites) directly on the money site. Not blasting, just carefully selected sites with (mostly) contextual links.

I always thought using gsa for backlinks in 2021 was very outdated due to googles constantly evolving algorithm.

GSA not working because GSA has sites with high scam score and google didnot like it. Google will downgrade your ranking if you will use GSA

And how much benefit you thing he will get from (3-5) backlinks per month in the first three months? Don't you think (3-5) backlinks per month are too low?

it's not too low because the googlebot freaks out when it sees a new domain acquiring 100s of backlinks in a short amount of time. In its fake intelligence the googlebot will deem this sudden influx of backlinks as gaming the system (which it doesn't like), and will sandbox the domain name. It's happened to one of my websites last year, I've built the website in February, did no backlinking for 2 months, then I got pissed off because I saw no rankings (not in even in top 100 of the results page, much less page 1.. or even page 2 rankings), and like I said, I got pissed of waiting for google to reward the "great quality content" (which I obviously had), and I started building backlinks by purchasing a diverse backlinking package (which included all of those things you mentioned and more). About 1 month after having those backlinks delivered the website started appearing in top 100 for 2 keywords, one at #86 and the other at #88. It's stayed there for a week and then vanished again from the SERPs. and then I got angry again and totally ignored the website until september if I remember correctly. In september I purchased another one of those "great" SEO packages hoping to get my rankings back but it didn't happen. And in January this year I got about 4-5 guest post / PBN type of backlinks from various websites related to my niche and the rankings have come back within 2 weeks of those backlinks being indexed by google.

Google has devalued those backlinks a lot, it's not necessarily hurting your website if you get them, but it's wasted money because they carry very little linkjuice value. Guest posts and PBNs (and occasionally web 2.0s) are the backlinks that rank you. Well, this is only regarding backlinks, but google takes many factors into account when deciding where websites rank, and some of those factors are extremely important, such as user experience (how clean and fast your website is for visitors, and how quickly they find the answer they are looking for), domain name popularity (how much traffic the domain name gets before being ranked in google), and many others.

So anyway, if he wants to test things out on his own - which I highly recommend since a huge part of being successful at SEO is testing things out because google updates their algo dozens of times a year - then he should do so, and he'll see what works and what doesn't because each niche ranks differently for each keyword. But if he doesn't have the time or money to test the backlinks for himself he should just stick with guest posts acquired at a safe pace (a few per month for 2-3 months, and then increase the number by a few more backlinks gradually) in the beginning and his website will be fine. Yes, this takes time and his keywords might rank even sooner than 3-4 months, especially if they are low competition keywords, but he'll play safely at least

Great thoughts. I don't think I need to add much in this. One thing I would like to mention that when we buy SEO packages or link building packages, most of these service providers have lists of where they are going to place our links and these kind of lists don't work on things like blog commenting as they just copy paste pre written comments with a link of our website which is clearly not the way to go. My point was is to do 3-5 guest posts in a month plus building some good backlinks as well using things like web 2.0 or blog comments but it has to be quality work with good unique content for web 2.0 and blog comments only on relevant blog posts with manually well written comments. In my view, if we add some quality links in addition to our guest posting work, it will only be beneficial to our website but we just can't focus on the numbers which many SEO/link building service providers promise.

good points. In the beginning, I missed what you wanted to say, but it's true, manual blog comments that add value to the page you are commenting on work well, too.

As for web 2.0, this might be an unpopular opinion, but... I'm not a fan of nurturing web 2.0 websites anymore. If a web 2.0 website wants me to post content on it regularly, add images, format the content, make it unique and blah blah blah... basically, if the web 2.0 wants me to treat and nurture the website like it was my own in exchange for a backlink, but which can delete my account at the push of a button because of a mistake or because they feel like my services are not needed anymore, then I might as well invest my time and resources in creating my own PBN network, which gives me total control over my work and websites.

Web 2.0s used to work great for SEO in the past: you just created an account, slammed a PLR article on them and get a powerful backlink. Do this with 10-15 web 2.0s and rank. But nowadays it's more work involved and the worst part is, like I said, that you have no control over that content. If you're going to put your precious time and resources into something then put it in something that you own.
