The firewall isn't new, it's basically only allowing content that has been approved before, and they don't approve anything regarded "obscene, harmful or illegal" by the chinese authorities...but it doesn't really affect common use of the web, plus, it can be easily bypassed.

Scary to think it could happen in the U.S. And if the Chinese can't get around it, then I doubt we could.

We should start planning now . Start with 10,000 dial-up webservers with an extreme encryption funded by mass-donation of the Chinese, and place the servers in a remote location where Internet isn't likely to be censored. Treat them like a sort of dial-up proxy. Then, when the fund gets larger, start building giant radio towers that look like artistic landmarks, like the Eiffel Tower. That will increase the bandwidth and speed tremendously.

But OMG ! How do we get the Chinese to donate if we can't reach them via the Internet??
