[CONTROVERSIAL] Is Bitcoin a Pyramid Scheme? - Debate for Why or Why-Not | Cryptocurrency Scam?

Any reason your not using a more stable coin in your business, other then people know more about BTC?

Not really - I give options for other currencies when I can but BTC has become sort of the Paypal of the crypto world in the sense that people usually prefer using it at least in my experience over other cryptos. Hope that changes though because dealing with BTC transactions can get annoying sometimes.

I use BTC as part of business, which may be a small percentage of customers for that end of things but still some decent flow so I don't really see it as easy money as much as I look at it for its intended usage in using as an actual currency for exchange of value.

But for the people who solely using crypto as a way to earn money, it's not exactly dumb of them to try to take opportunities to play with the market and get some ROI as long as it's done smart and right. I think it all goes wrong when people get greedy and center a lot of their philosophy and earnings around it and that's when it starts becoming a lazy, high risk approach for easy money which isn't the best way to approach it at all.
I didn't mean to attack anyone who trades bitcoin (who knows what they doing, stop losses, proper analysis, etc). It was aimed at people buying bitcoin just coz some twitter celebrity says it is the future. I don't think it will replace fiat in a million years - but I am totally open to that possibility. And I have no problem being wrong. I've made stupid conclusions before. We live and learn. :D

if you were to build an entirely new system, where everything ran smoothly, what would it be?

Exactly and that's why I always try to have an open mind about anything in life and explore all perspectives. God forbid I become a typical ignorant soul lost to the woes of woke culture.

You can already sense the passive aggression in this thread. It's nice to see there are some people who like to analytically think about these things without letting their mucha-cha emotions get in the way of their ego which clash to form the most annoying jutsu that even Naruto himself would pce out on.

Lol, I'm getting trolled again :( I feel like I'd want to be friends with you irl.

In the crypto context, there are some crypto systems already out there that do a great job. i.e. I'm liking what I'm seeing with Monero

I guess price keeps going up because everyone's already out and taking profit that's why :D

And when the sheep go after the easy money - I try to make money by providing value - let's see who ends up rich at the end of the day ;)
If you don't adapt, you're not human. In the age of cryptocurrency, if you have the CHANCE to make money, you shouldn't let it pass. Calling people "sheep" who use BTC to earn money is just a dumb excuse to hide behind your incompetency to change according to the times. You could have done both, but this rudimentary thinking that you have about BTC is stopping you in doing so. And FYI, most of the SHEEPS are richer than you and I could ever be. ;)

I view it like penny stocks, talk it up to persons who aren't fully aware of what's happening. Promise them riches, when there's enough persons investing raising the worth of a single bitcoin, those at the top benefit and can liquidate their holdings whenever, dropping the value back a bit and those at the lowest parts with their 0.01 - .99 btc feel that hit based on what they purchased it for

Not a scam, somewhat pyramid like but meh.

I kind of missed that post and feel stupid for it.

Haha, it's okay. His post did sort of come off strong and demeaning so I can see why you replied to it directly. At least you came off chill afterwards :)

I think it is one of those well thought out scam that's happening in plain sight that we will talk about in years. I hope I am wrong tho.

No one I know truly buys bitcoin for what it is advertised ( a decentralized medium of money), all the people I know buy in the hopes to sell later to earn some easy money.

When someone is advertising/promising easy money - I get that gut feeling to avoid it at all costs, and that's what I've been doing all these years.
High risk = high rewards. You're missing a lot.

I was am an avid supporter of Bitcoin from the earlier stages and still have a good amount I don't plan on selling any time soon.

However a few days ago with what happened to XRP and Ripple, and how trading platforms are taking it down due to the SEC issues, it's gonna sink to 0$ in no time.
It has opened my mind to an entirely new possibility of government issues that could potentially put Bitcoin at risk(not exactly like XRP since it's not a company, but there are ways). It would make the platforms take it down, and the value would just keep reducing and reducing.

What are your thoughts on this possibly happening, now that BTC is rising to new heights and banks not being very happy about it?

Well again, as someone who advocates for Bitcoin, I just wanted to be able to hear people's thoughts on it. As I said, I want to gain some insight from people who have their own strong opinions about it, so it's great to hear yours and why you think so.

From what I remember, the biggest vulnerability point someone usually goes for in this argument is to say that because it involves a reliance/value factor as in for someone to pay a price higher in order for the price to rise.

Now usually I'd look at that and say that can be said about many other things which are not ponzi / pyramid schemes. The most I'd go as far to say anything about it is the only way it can be considered something malicious comes from when many people do pump/dumps to play with the prices. It was technically designed to sort of work that way so it sort of creates that perpetual circular scheme. The guys that were talking to me about it mentioned the history behind early adopters taking advantage as it may technically reward the earlier birds. But again, that's technically how the system was designed so it's EASY to maybe look at it that way simply from the kind of schemes we've faced in the past. But I also think that this concept can be applied to many things in life that are NOT schemes.

For many people who put money in to BTC 2 years ago for example, it isn't far fetched to say many lost it. So you're investing a lot in to a hold of value which can be seen as a way where it exists to make early adopters richer and later birds sort of the "suckers". And since it has no capital associated with it, there really wasn't any inherent risk for early adopters.

But I think pyramid scheme is probably a bad way to describe it as they did as there's no direct way to resell. I think the big thing is just looking at the early adopters vs "late suckers" and the way the system was designed around that. Aside from that ((again I fucking love BTC)) if you do have differing opinions, you're downvoted and people who are bullish are pretty gung ho about it to levels of cringe-mania. Which is why I was slightly nervous at all to hear people's thoughts about it on this forum.

In fact if anything, I'm quite surprised you haven't even had this idea cross in your mind at all or anybody who has seriously invested themselves in this space (I have and that's why I'm curious) as it is definitely something to explore especially if you're passionate and truly believe in it.

So again, my opinion?

I don't think it will possibly replace current systems of transactions via FIAT / bank / etc as the way it's designed at least in the consumer sense and I think many other cryptos for example do a better job than BTC on that. But I do think BTC has been an iconic hallmark to transition society in to a world of crypto which we can see becoming a big source of value and currency in the future (as it's already making great strides to doing).

As for pyramid scheme? I think that's a bad way to describe it. Not really ponzi either. But I can see why some people MAY be skeptical about it. It's important to understand these people's perspectives in order to revolutionize the future.

And so I'll say it again - I made the thread to simply see people's opinion on the matter so that I can also be further educated in the matter or reinforce some rationale in people who actually are skeptical about this whole thing.
Very good points. I can see what you mean.

It's purpose changed from the initial project. BTC can look like it's just another asset. But let's not forget everything that it accomplished so far:
  • it's the biggest global financial software that works without a company
  • it's the first software that can't be censored (this is mind-blowing to me)
  • anyone (and I mean ANYONE) can transfer value ignoring borders and governments. Just as a comparison, not everyone can have a banking account
Yes it is not perfect. But we can't deny that the world will be a better place just because the bitcoin project has this much success.

It gives hope to the average people.

We're not part of the ones BTC helps. We're looking for investment speculation. That is not why BTC was created.

The base point of BTC it was not trading, where people can make or lose money. In my opinion, bitcoin was build to work something like "wire cash" that we use every day to pay for some service/product but with a big advantage which is this new online currency don't go through the bank system and people can have more freedom.
Anyway, this system is abused by traders and now when it's up people that don't have any BTC say that is a Ponzi scheme, and when it's down people that have invested get some thoughts that maybe is a scam.
So, is this the real price of bitcoin? Of course not, this price is way too much higher than actually is worth in reality, now people just accumulated BTC without a good reason, they buy just because they think that price will go up and that's why a big crush happens when everyone stops's buying. People should start thinking that BTC is like $ for example you use it to buy something that you need and you keep something for an emergency and when that happens bitcoin will be strong.

The base point of BTC it was not trading, where people can make or lose money.
The base point of BTC was trading, since why construct a currency that are capped at 21 million coins and constructed so that it would always go up in value when it would be more demands for it otherwise?

Because no one know back then that will grow too much, every fiat currency also have some limits

While BTC is a genius work of technology, it simply has no fundamental value or major government backer. Which means that it's value comes purely from speculation. I wouldn't call it a pyramid scheme, but I would say that it's value is determined by thousands of highly neurotic traders that heard about Bitcoin from a YouTube ad.

They knew, thats why it is constructed the way it is, in case of demand.
