Heya! So to used copyright content:
- Use only 5-10 second segments of the COPYRIGHTED clip
- Add voiceover
- Try to refrain from ever using copyrighted audio/ original audio

What you can also do is filder YoUTube videos by Creative COmmons whenever you do a search and just use those types of videos.

Yes I knew about the CC filter video search but I think there's one problem with it. I believe someone people re-upload copyrighted material on their own videos and then mark their videos as creative commons so then when you search for it and use it thinking it's CC, you end up getting flagged later. I don't believe all the the videos found under creative commons are 100% copyright risk free.

It also made me think about this loophole. There are lot of artists or channels that offer no copyright sounds/music. They wait until thousands of people have used their copyright free music and it is in thousands of videos and then later switch it over to copyrighted music and collect on all the revenues from their now copyright song. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe this is a loophole trick behind some of the free no copyright sounds/songs.

You gave us hints that you are basically doing what WatchMojo and TheTalko are doing but smaller. I've seen quite a lot of medium sized YT channels that do this these kinds of videos in this niche. I've thought about it myself but the time it takes to make one of those kinds of videos is really time consuming. The part that takes the longest is finding all the clips and scenes from movies/TV shows that I need. On average, how long does it take for you to complete one video? a few days? a few hours?

I realize it can differ greatly depending on the level expertise/skill and experience the creator has. Once you've done enough, you can develop a "system" or "template" so that making future videos becomes much faster as you already have the groundwork laid out and just need to "fill in/plug in the gaps".

I've also wondered, for creators in this niche, you obviously need to brush up on your movie knowledge/history and that means watching a lot of movies (as fun homework but time consuming) and keeping a library of movies/tv shows to use at your disposal. Do you rely solely on just searching youtube for the video clips you need and if they don't have it online, you pretty much have to download the movie (torrent) and then find the scene/clip and extract it yourself. This leads me to think that someone who is gone full time in this niche and therefore has to live, eat, breathe, and sleep movies, would invest a few thousand dollars in 100 TB maybe 200 or 500 TB of storage to fill it with as many movies and tv shows as you can....a library of your own to access at your own whim.


I used to make a lot of movie music video tributes in the past before YT was monetized. I was doing it solely as a hobby and just for fun because it was my passion. I could spend hours a day or even a weekend just editing, clipping, sequencing movie clips for my music video and matching it up with a song of my choice. So I know how time consuming it is just to make a 3 or 4 minute video full of clips. It takes a heck of a lot of time, memory space, and you have download a lot of movies (torrent, but back then I used emule ed2k to download all my movies). Then once YT went monetized, everything became copyrighted and blocked etc., so I stopped making those. Lost my motivation even though it's still my passion to make music videos.

A previous user has already asked the same question with a good example, but I did not understand your answer. If your topic is top 10 Naruto fight, who would do the search? I mean you see that this is a good topic for a video, but to find the fights you must know Naruto, which are the fight etc, where to find images etc. And this type of knowledge, it is pretty hard to find in a general employer (script writer, voicover artist, video editor o general manager) The same we can say about to 10 rock band, top ten soccer player etc etc.
So the question is what would you do about this? You just copycat the model video, and do it better, or you search all the info by yourself... because this last option in not simple

You are entirely right in that probably not all CC videos are 100% copyright risk free. You have some very interesting ideas- that of which ive never heard or had any experience so i really cant give much info on it.

if you search for copyright free gameplay, that's also a source for footage that a lot of top 10 Youtuber videos use.100% completely monetizable but STILL people only use short segments of it so that if there is ever a way for copyright holders to "turn on" copyright claims, then they wouldnt run into any issues.

My video editors are VERY good at editing videos and compiling clips. They often turn projects anywhere from 1-3 days. Myself- I havent edited a video in over a year now but i recall it was taking me 8 hours+ which is why I hired someone better than me to do it

For the video editors, they do have folders that they ve downloaded related to specific shows movies sports celebrities that they kind of use as their "library" for sourced imagery. The amount of space that they need is immense but a simple 2 TB hard drive is more than enough space

You are right in the sense that making these videos does take a lot of time and space on your drive, but there is a very strategic/ systemized way that i developed to make video editors edit my videos faster. It's simply just a step by step process:

1. download the script
2. download the sourced footage for each # in the script
3. compile the footage
4. create "titles" for each countdown in the script
5. chop up the clips

That's a general overview of it but when my video editors edit this way, it's a lot easier.

Topic= Top 10 Naruto Fight Scenes

Script writer would write the 10 scenes
Voiceover would recite the script.
Video editor would find naruto fight scenes that match the script.

This is a special occassion where I would prefer to have an "anime" video editor edit the video but it's not that hard honestly. All this work is based on research that they would simply have to youtube search "naruto fighting sasuke" in YouTube and whatever comes up, they would just assume that on video would be naruto fighting sasuke.

There have been times where topics like F1 racing would be too difficult but most of my topics are really researchable despite not having a background in that field.

Do you think the new Copyright Laws will have any impact on newer Compilation Channels? Will YouTube tighten their restrictions for "reused material" when doing Monetization for new channels? I was just curious what your take on this is because the new Law isn't 100% clear on the specifics when I read it (Started my Channel this month so I just want to be prepared).

Thanks again for your replies Weng. I've watched a couple of your videos from your personal youtube page. It's nice to see a genuine person
sharing and talking about this sort of stuff. Your channel reminds me of the "stealth wealth" channels where the videos only get a few hundred or even a thousand views and subs are low, BUT they are highly successful people with successful channels or other projects that aren't fully disclosed.

I've seen some other channels where guys have like 2000 subs and each video gets about 500 - 1000 views but they are talking about how to make 6 figure incomes and show their super sports car and big ass houses lol. It's kinda interesting.

Anyways onto a different question. I know you said that your views on your channels are 100% organic and you don't do any kind of paid advertising. I was just wondering if you use things like other social media? For example, videos that are uploaded often need a little "kick in the butt" to get it going and unless you are already a famous youtuber, most videos that are just uploaded won't suddenly go viral or get a lot of views in the beginning. So I have seen that one could easily created a FB group in that particular niche, spend months building a giant fb group and then start posting/sharing your new youtube uploads into your fb group(s) and that gives them a nice little jump start of a couple hundred views within a day or so. Usually once you get that little kick, it helps the video to pick up steam and have better chance to go viral, esp. when people "share" the video (spread a lot faster).

In the past, I used to play maplestory and just for fun, recorded videos and uploaded them on my yt channel. To get my video to go somewhat viral, I would always post my new upload in a maplestory forum such as basilmarket (I haven't used it in years now but I'm sure they are still up and popular). When I posted my link in that forum, I instantly got several hundred views within a few hours. That would give me the bump I needed to start collecting a lot of organic views from youtube and eventually my videos would hit 25k to 100k views each video. If I didn't post on that forum and get a bump, my videos would not perform well or would take a much longer time to get rolling or sometimes never at all.

I've created a few fb groups just for fun over the years and some of them grew pretty big (30K+ members) but they aren't always active which is the big problem (mainly because I didn't regularly upload and keep it active myself). But I can see how using other social media networks like building a group and then posting on your own groups to get views on your YT vids could help a lot. I also think if one could start their own forum in their niche and grow it, you will be golden each time you share your video uploads because it's your forum and you can pin it at the front or top anytime and as much as you want.

I currently have an fb group with 50K+ members in a niche that is VERY active but it is not a niche that I am particularly interested in or make YT vids of lol. It was just for fun as I really spent a lot of my days just fooling around on the net and one thing led to another. The only thing I could post in my group are amazon affiliate links. I'm making a very tiny bit of commission from sales with my amazon affiliate links but they are almost all coming from my YT videos and not from my very active FB group. I should note that the FB group is non-American so that's probably why because most of the people in the group do not live in America or shop on Amazon.

Just curious if you use any other social media links, reddit, forums, etc to share your video links to get more views? I suspect you wouldn't really need it anyways now that your channels have taken off and can attract their own views. I think mainly speaking for smaller channels that don't get any push from YT to utilize things like other social media to get their first 100+ views to get the ball rolling.

Strange thing happens on YT sometimes. I had a video I posted 2 years ago that only got about 4k views after 2 years. About 1 month ago it suddenly got suggested by YT. I have no idea how or why. I never did anything to it. I just left it alone for 2 years. For some reason, YT picked it up and started suggesting it to youtubers and everyone started flooding in. The video now is nearing 100k views after it was stagnant for 2 years!!! So it seems that sometimes it's just about trying to figure out how to get YT to push / suggest your video the world. Interesting.

Sorry one other thing I wanted to share with you. I actually asked about this a few months back somewhere in this forum.
There is channel that peaked my interest. His name is Jack Chapple. He actually lives close to my home city.
I noticed on his yt page that he was posting for a couple years on things like investments, stocks how to make money etc
but only had 2-5k views per video and at the time (1 year ago) less than like 20k subs. He was obviously making big money
elsewhere and not on youtube ...I think his actual job was a stock market broker or something like that. He had a big house
and expensive car but his YT channel only had 2k views.

Then I noticed he made a sudden change. He always had the skills and knowledge, but he just didn't deliver it the right way until
he made a change. He started to make videos of only his voice (reading a script) which he may or may not have written, and paste's
the entire script in the description of each video. Covid19 also helped because the topics he started to talk about were related to
the long-term affects of covid19 on the world's economy. I noticed from his footages he was basically just using stock footage either
from artgrid, envato, storyblocks, shutterstock etc....so if he talked about China, all the footages were just of China (cities, ships, people
in the streets, night shots, aerial shots, great wall of china etc) while he talked about something. The titles were all catchy and had
shock value too like, "The New Superpower" or "The Next Crisis is Coming" things like that suddenly his videos were getting 500k to 2 million
views each! His channel also skyrocketed from 20k subs to 500k subs in this year alone. The production value doesn't seem that hard.
What he's good at is speaking (good voice), good audio quality (I don't know what equipment he uses) but that made me invest and buy
a shure mic phone which is what I did along with cloudlifter and focusrite. He also uses good background music that matches the tone
and mood of his videos and talks. Package it altogether and even though a lot of his statistics aren't correct and people call him out on
the mistakes he's made, it's like you don't get punished for it anyways on YT. You can pretty much just pretend to sound good and know
what you are talking about and you don't have to be entirely accurate and mistake-proof. Oddly, he hasn't a posted a new video in 2 months.
I would think he would keep doing it because he must be pulling easily $1000-$2000 per video. So this really made me think about getting
a subscription to artlist and artgrid because I would be able to get all the no copyright music/background and video for my videos. Currently
I just use the free sites like yayimages and pexels that I got off bhw recommendations.

Just wanted to share and if you have any comments on it.

I want to clarify, do you use 5-10 seconds from the original video only once (in your one video) or you can take several parts of 5-10 seconds from one video (if yes, how many parts can you use in your video (on average)?
