Anyone use joomla?

I have used WordPress in the past with all the plugins needed, but nearly every week I had to download and reupload updated plugins using FTP. Than I stumbled on Joomla which has a better look, easy to install and tons of features available. I am currently working on thedailyplazadotcom and thedailyplazadotcom/classifieds/

There are over 3000 plugins available at hxxp://extensions*joomla*org/
I get a lot of plugins from another bulletin. PM me if you need more info on the address.


The classified part of thedailyplaza is now installed with the new admanager, which allows you to sell adspace on your site, paid event manager, which allow you to people pay for certain events, like OTO.
All plugins can be installed from with your admin panel, no more FTP

It is kinda cool the way you can adjust everything, and even the buy me a beer like for WordPress is available for Joomla.
So my experience is that Joomla is a bit more complicated than WordPress, but once you get started on it, you'll get hooked

All my website is using joomla, I think it's wise to use joomla because it has so many mods you can choose to.

I use Joomla for all my sites. The learning curve is pretty steep but when you finally got a hang on it you can do pretty much anything with that CMS. A plus is all the free extensions and the variety of commercial extensions to choose from. And a huge plus is an very active pirate scene where one can pick up all templates and extensions ever needed.

Imer >> Check www (dot) portaliz (dot) com. Their forum (need to register) have a lot of Joomla stuff and you can find e-books and tutors there. Another great place is www (dot) joompalace (dot) com, where you find pretty much anything to/for Joomla. The last one can be a little bit tricky to get access to since it's an invite only community.

I have been using Joomla for about 3 weeks now...honestly unless you are looking for something special I recommend WordPress for sure...

Its harder to edit unless youre an expert on coding...there are not as many themes/templates for it...but you can do more with it.

In the past I disrgarded most o/s cms softwares because of inherent security risks in over developed code which was over functional. But it shouldn't stop me knowing what the competition can do to make my own little things more efficient and competitive

Yes, agree with Trota, needs some time to get comfortable with Joomla. If i were you, I would start with considering my objectives first. Once you have your CMS selection criteria, go for compare and test to make the right decision.

Last year I tested Hippo, e107, Drupal, Typo3, CMSMS, OpenCMS and Joomla, and the latter was the best fit for MY business portal needs (tons of extensions, support, friendliness, templates). Web standards compliant html output and SEO are not a problem, the site got PR4 in a few month proving that it's all about good content.

Guys, I have confused what is different of wordpress and joomla? Joomla is a blog or what?

Joomla is a full CMS with a much easier template to design for and, to me, an easier backend to work with.

Joomla is in my oppinion a great CMS. For those who think that one hve to be a coder to work with Joomla. Well.. You don't need to know any code at all. You need to know how to work with Joomla and that have a little bit longer learning curve then Wordpress. The pros with Joomla is that you can do so much more then what you can do with Wordpress. At least that's my opinion.

Joomla also have a lot more extension then Wordpress and the extensions are more sofisticated. Sure. Joomla might be more then one ask for and if I just was about to set up a blog I would probably go for Wordpress instead. When it comes to my main site (a traditional travel agency) I don't think I could have gotten it to work as I wanted with Wordpress only.

When I first started with Joomla I also thought that it was too much. I would recommend getting the Packt Publishing - Building Websites with Joomla! 1.5 (search on sites like katz.cd and you will find it). Go for making a simple template and you will learn a lot and understand how Joomla works. It also tooked me some time to understand how to work properly with sections and categories. The rest was a pice of cake. To install components, modules and mambots is simple as nothing else and I have set up full featured online stores in matter of hours with Joomla. I made a full community site in less then one day. I convert almost any websitelayout to a Joomla template in matter of minutes.

When learn how to work with Joomla it will work for you. I had no knowledge in coding in PHP when I started out with this CMS and one doesn't need any either. The only time one can be in need for knowing some coding is when making once own templates and when one want to set it up with colapsible module positions etc. But that was for me like 1-2 hours or reading on the Joomla org forum to learn.

Start with a good e-book covering the system in it self, how to make templates (which you won't need to know if working with premade templates only, but it might help one to better understand how Joomla works on the clientside and one can easier tweak the page for once needs if knowing the template part.) and you wont have any problem.

A tips.. Look for a standalone server through the Joomla org > Extension page. Then you can setup and laborate on your own computer before going live with your Joomla site.

Thanks to a0rta and caretaker2007 for the clarification. Could I mix both for developing my site? I don't want just the blog installed my main url (http://www.mysite.com), instead I would like install in my directory (http://www.mysite.com/blog).

The main url is the latest information reflect from my blog. When I write new post or page, it would update in the main url. Can joomla do that?

I know that now have alot of CMS wordpress but it's install in main url, my main concern is, in case I would change to normal homepage without loss all the link in my blog.

You don't even need to do that, you can install the blog compenent/module and have it right with your content, since Joomla has a blog extension or twenty-one. That way you only have one back end to worry about. Saves time, and time is money.

ManToMan >> Why don't you go to joomla (dot) org and there click on the extension link in the top menu. You can there see what's offering to Joomla among the extensions and it will give you a good view of what Joomla is capable of doing pretty much right out of the box

If you want something this can be easily customized and really flexible I think wordpress would be better.

blackhat rich, I like wordpress very much even it's indexed faster, is would being indexed within few hours. Too much people manipulate wordpress nowadays, and worry that it would drop the value in search engine. So I would like some backup.

I have found the ebook explain the detail of using the joomla, would post to download session soon.

Or anyone can share your thought and opinion?
