How safe is this for a money site with a large number of pages that needed crawling? Say 50,000 pages.

Also does "50 Spiders Crawling" mean 50 pages will be crawled? Or does it mean each spider will do more than one page?

It is safe for money sites as well. Of course it is up to you to make final decision. Personally, I am using it on literary all projects of mine for initiation of crawling of any type of web property that needs crawling including money sites as soon as they are made.

I do have couple of projects with huge number of pages (spammy) and it does take time but eventually pages do get attention of G indexing wise. G sometimes needs a "little push" in terms of finding out new pages no matter what the onsite is when it comes to new sites. Again, personally I blame this on crawling budget and site age for starters.
