I'm tired of plagiarism! How can you stop others from stealing your content?

Ok so as the title shows, I have found out that some good numbers of pages of a website we have have some plagiarism issues after checking the links through copyscape! and by checking the other sites that have stolen the content, some are posts on FB that are not related to the products we sell, they were stolen for descriptions of products that do not belong to us but in the same niche.
I'm not sure how would this issue affect our site SEO and how's google going to see it.

Also, we do post on pinterest and it looks like copyscape is showing pins that are ours but as a plagiarism, even though the pins are pointing to our website.

Now the question is: how important is to fix this issue, what are the effects to leave these issues as is? how can you possibly chase others to alert them to change their content because they are infringing on your copyrighted materials?

I don't see this discussed much here, even though content scraping and re-writing is a big part of this community, but we do need to discuss the effects of Plagiarism on your money site, whether you are adding a content that have been spinned or if you are writing an original content and someone else steals it, then what would happen to your money site? Is it important to change the newly stolen content on your site so you can keep your site clean or do you chase the others to change their content or you just forget it and move on?

Lets discuss this please.

I don't think it should affect SEO because search engines don't really copy / paste, they rather scan your content from your HTML code. As long as your content is visible in your HTML code, it should be fine.

Haha, call me an oldie but I hate this option. It does nothing but just creating usability issues. If somebody wanted, they could just view the page source and copy from there.

You are right, it does create usability issues, I guess the only option here is to make your content paid.

Just thought about this idea, what if a script could scan your content using copyscape automatically and if there is any plagiarized content, the script would scan the whole website and try to find the webmaster's email & email the webmaster with some threatening email.

Absolutely useless. Some websites automate extracting content with a bot.

The problem I'm seeing is that, pinterest pins: copyscape is showing many pins as plagiarism, when in fact these pins belong to our site, how can you fix this issue when many others have repined the pin.
At the same time, the info or description of the pin, is different from what copyscape is showing, not sure if copyscape is going all the way to where the pin is linking to the text on the website, makes no sense at all, because this is same site.

AND, I saw some exact text of one of our pages on someone else FB and he used it to describe his product not ours, so I messaged him: telling him about this issue and the fact that his product has EXACT SAME TEXT as ours, he texted me back that he wrote the text himself!! oh well, may be we are twin? LOL, so I had to go back to our page and change the text somehow and check it again in copyscape and made sure it passes. I have been working for hours just to fix other people sh** as I do believe this affecting the SEO somehow, lets see in few weeks what would happen and if these fixed pages will rank?

the site is pretty popular in certain niche, people can buy products and put their names on, but they can’t copy products descriptions! Some are very lazy they just copy descriptions and go on.
they are not so many, I scanned around 35 URL so far through copy cape and changed the info on my site to NOT match the others. I still need to scan the rest of the site as copyscape only showed me they could scan 35! I have 100s of URLs. So this what I will do for the next few weeks, change my info a bit to not match the sites that copyscape is showing.

my problem now is that Pinterest pins! Have you guys tried to scan with this copyscape and see if your pins showing as plagiarism! The pins are repined over and over so it’s not possible to change many of them. PLUS the pins themselves have nothing in common for the text that copyscape is showing as these specific pins are plagiarism! I’m puzzled
