Amazon Rate Cut Alternates - Yes or No ?

So I had 2 emails overnight, from 2 companies who manufacture/are distributors for products I sell on one of my sites.


"I thought I’d reach out to let you know that we are honoring the 8% commission that Amazon was previously paying affiliates (now 3% as of April 21st). "

The other offered me 6%, advising it's double what Amazon are offering. < Like I couldn't do the maths on that myself >


So what would you do?

If they are well known and trustworthy then I’d switch.

As David said, I'd make the switch only if the companies are reputable and trustworthy. Otherwise, your conversion rate's gonna suffer big time.

Do they ask for exclusivity? If so, I would search to see how popular are their products. If everything is good, I would consider their offers.

The good part with Amazon ( if there is any good part left) is that cookie thing ( even if it expire in 24h ), from where you can get more passive income if your user buy more products and not only the promoted one.

So what would you do?

Looking for ways to switch myself. Amazon can suck my fucking chode.

But in the situation you described, driving traffic to Amazon will probably still be better then direct to supplier's website as you get a comission on everything, so I'd probably keep promoting the Amazon links (or maybe promote both, if possible). Really depends on the product though.

I'd say it depends how good their site is, in terms of CRO and UI. They might offer a better % but have a clunky site.

Shouldn't you ask for more? Since Amazon gives it's commission on a basket level, but this seems to be on a product level.

Put yourself in your buyers shoes, would you buy the product from their website? If the answer is yes, then I would change in a heart beat. If the answer is no, find someone you would buy from.

Personally I am actively looking for companies to affiliate with, even the extras you pickup in the cart are not worth it anymore.

As my site being in pets niche I added another CTA button below amazon with chewy affiliates but still I'm getting sales from amazon only, let's see for some more time how this is going in future.

I would do both, 2 CTA buttons side by side:

• Buy from Amazon ( Fast TAT - More Expensive)
  
• Buy from Manufacturer (Higher TAT - Cheaper)

This is very interesting, having manufacturers contacting you, this means that amazon's strategy will back fire big time with this new comission cut.
