How much money you made from Upwork?

Not much tbh. There's a lot of competition, I mean A LOT. Every job I apply to gets 10-30 proposals in the next couple of hours after my application. I've gotten a few clients but competing so aggressively is not my kind of thing or what I want to do, so I've personally not used it since like fall. If you want to grow your account you need to work for cheap for the first weeks/months until you start to get a reputation.

I worked more on freelancer and made around 6000$ from 2015-2018

Upwork is competitive, but if you do a few low-paying jobs to build your portfolio and then start to apply, you should get clients.

Currently I'm in the former phase, but it's been like 40 days since I started. Making about $700-800 a month.

Never made money but I have hired several outstanding writers for between $1 & $1.5 a word. The competition is fierce and the standards are fairly high.
I'm sure it would be possible to build out a great team of writers and then sell their services on here.

I was working there few years ago when I was a student. Started with doing some android apps for super low prices like 30$ (simple one-screen apps), but after getting few first jobs I easily could get jobs with 100$/day rate. When I got "top rated" badge I got close to 100% hire rate could get pretty much any job in mobile apps category that I wanted. It was ok category, but better rates I was able to get occassionally in Reverse Enginnering jobs (like 1k/day). I'm not active there anymore, so things may be a bit different now. I never worked for $ per hours (it's good only if you are not confident about your skills), always fixed price, if you know what you are doing it's easier to earn more.

Too much competition on upwork for new sellers. So, I'd say the growth curve is pretty hard
