Seriously: you ready for Coronavirus?

You sure?

1% of a million is 10.000.

A lapsus on that 1%, but the point remains. Much more infected with a lower death rate could still cause more deaths than fewer infected with a larger death rate, in theory.

Also the 1-2% is considered in all cases, not only those with outcomes, but in total infected. The above could be represented as around 3% deaths in total. But still, it's very mild compared to other viruses like H5N1.

Death rate is high because 15% of people 70> will die from it.

If you're young (<50) and healthy death rate is 0.2 - 0.5%

People still downplaying this????

All continents except the North and South Poles now infected.

You still think this is conspiracy theory?

What do you mean? What other cases exist outside of those depicted in the image above?

To recap:
  • 8% death rate on the closed cases.
  • 18% in serious or critical condition for the active cases.
It's disingenuous to calculate the ratio "death"/"infected" and include that ongoing cases in the denominator, as that way you skew the data to assume that from the active cases none will result to death.

Its there - yes for sure.

But people are panicking waaaaay to much.

Do you have older relatives? Does your work depend on you being healthy?

This virus might not kill a high percentage, but you can barely breathe. Do you have a great healthcare plan??? Can you afford not working and paying 10+ days hospital bill?

Those are the real questions IMO

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-death-rate/ - let's agree to agree with the info on this link

The first question is valid and that worries me as well. The other questions are only valid if one is 70+ with preconditions and still working (not many do that nowadays) that would negatively impact the outcome if infected. This is what we know so far, unless something dramatically changes over a short period of time.

If you're otherwise healthy and below 70 - you will probably not even have to go to the hospital if you contract the virus, let alone have breathing difficulties. One should take precautions though (if infected), so as not to infect others around them, that would be more prone to complications from the virus.

That is why I don't downplay it, but I'm also not scared to death of it and stocking food and stuff like some catastrophe of biblical proportions has happened.

This is what we know so far... the future is unknown.

Yeah. Luckly I'm not living in the US with their fucked up sick days and health system :)

You know the media. They love to spread panic and they love clicks.

Its true that the death rate is 3%. And the media loves to mention that number over and over again. SO EVERYONE IS IN PANIC OH MY GOD I'M GONNA DIIEEEE

No. 60% of the people wouldn't even notice that they had it. And even if the virus is getting you bad - if you're young and in good shape 99.98% chance you'll survive.

It is not the tragedy that you describe here in Italy. I'm currently on a train crossing Italy in his whole length and I've only crossed 4-5 people with a mask. The 99.99% of the people is not concerned about it, the supermarket are not empty, people goes to work, and everything is just the same as routine. Precaution is okay, avoiding and cancelling public events on these days too, but this thing has been pumped a lot.
Exaclty. No need to panic... yet

People keep spreading fake news on here stating that this is basically a cold or the flu. I'm not encouraging panic because that accomplishes nothing (except for evil bastards' advantages). I just think it is more dangerous to downplay something that caused China to lock down hundreds of millions of people. This is something ENTIRELY NEW. It is very early on. People are becoming "reinfected" (personally, I believe it goes latent for a time then comes back). It has HIV glycoproteins. https://www.scmp.com/news/china/soc...e-likely-sars-bond-human-cells-scientists-say. Japan has just confirmed their first known "reinfection" https://www.foxnews.com/health/coro...an-for-the-second-time-a-first-in-the-country

It's a bit DOOM focused, but zerohedge.com has been on top of this thing since January. Stay frosty my friends.

Let me understand - you're saying that what it says there is nonsense?

You're seriously disputing this? Based on what? Feelings?

No, I'm totally agreeing with the info on that article 100%.

Let's wait until the end of this epidemic so that the total cases / total deaths formula will make more sense. I still believe the rate (not the total number) will be a lot lot lower than a virus like H5N1. That's the trend... but let's see how it pans out - again, as mentioned before, if something doesn't drastically change, which it might.

All my points raised here lead to one conclusion - I personally do not fear this virus and neither should you or any other person panicking at the moment. Let's wait and see and take overall precaution as you would when it's seasonal flu time. No need to stock food and ammo for the post-apocalyptic era just yet... you didn't say that but it's the overall perception in the public which I'm against.

Cheers.

The % of death rate isn't the issue if you ask me. It's the knock on effect. If a few hundred thousand get the virus and half of them end up going to hospital (even if they are turned away) it puts a strain on the system then you have indirect deaths because of the virus i.e ambulances can't get to an accident, operations are canceled, transplants can't take place.

I don't think its a case of panicking because of the virus death rate is low, it's the way it can infect and spread that's the issue. Sure you may be tough enough to suck it up and get on with the day just like I would be but plenty of people will want to go to hospital. That's where problems start.

Well, you can't possibly agree with the article and at the same time disagree with me, because I wrote the exact same thing on my post. So I guess you agree with me but you kept arguing out of inertia :p

am I the only one who thinks corona virus has been used for bio terrorism ?
