Would you teach your daughter boxing

Why wouldn't you want to sign her up for boxing? It's a great sport and it's awesome for health&conditioning. If you really don't wanna sign her up for boxing at least sign her up for Jiu Jitsu or Krav Maga. It's perfect for self defense even though I preffer Jiu Jitsu

Do it if she is willing, don't force the issue in case she gets put off

By your logic EVERYONE in a martial arts class will be trying to beat your ass and bully you around, rather than to teach you skills.. simply because they're more powerful than you.

Improve your reading comprehension skills. Can you explain where did you get the idea that i meant "everyone" ?

Even though he won the fight, he should have kept on walking the guy could have had a gun.
If I remember rightly, this was in the UK - so not gun. The rest of the world doesn't allow people to carry around weapons like that just because the other person might have one/the government might turn tyrannical. Maybe a knife though

I boxed in the amateurs for 10 years. I went to a school where there was a lot of bullying and fortunately I never was bullied because of being in boxing since 8 years old. I competed in many tournaments from the Jr. Olympics to the Golden Gloves. I would never want my daughter to get into boxing but I was thinking with all the bullying, should I teach my daughter to box or at least learn how to throw a punch in self defense? My wife said No.

A Glock fits fine in the handbag :D

That's illogical. Human behavior changes with power. It doesn't really matter for what purpose they learn self-defense, what matters is being balanced after getting power which people rarely do nowadays.

So by logic - what are you? Powerless or unbalanced? :p

If your daughter wants it, why not? You never want your daughter to be in a situation she can't defend herself. You don't have to pick boxing, there are other martial arts like Karate, Krav Maga or Jiu Jitsu.

Yeah, makes sense - it's like the movies. You can't download one if you want because that's illegal.

There are still criminals with guns in the UK.

Of course, but they were two kids throwing something. Did they look like arm robbers or drug dealers, which about 95% of gun related crime is associated to?

Here is some more fun statics:

Also how do you compare 46 gun deaths (UK), to 8600 (US) deaths in 2014 when your population is only 6 times bigger?

but they were two kids throwing something.

That kinda defeats your original argument :)

I LOOOOOOOVEEEE statistics. Making people rage-quit with statistics is my favorite past time. Sadly, I will have to constrain myself on this kind of topic or I'll have to eventually perform a self-ban.

That said, the answer to your question is easy. It's called multivariate analysis.

It doesn't matter which country you are in, instigating a situation further can cause problems.

Boxing is great. Alternatively, you can send her to karate, taekwondo or BJJ classes. I guess boxing is better in terms of fitness and self-confidence.

Along with Boxing and Self defense classes,

My daughter has been happily carrying concealed from the day she turned 21.

We are a pro gun family and practice various forms of self defense.

God Bless 'Merica

My original point was, the kids would more than likely be carrying a knife, rather than a gun - i'm not sure how you reached the conclusion that my argument was defeated when I said they looked like kids throwing something.

But I agree, we could sit here all day and debate statics from guns/knife crime. The media does it all the time.

Original: "present or existing from the beginning; first or earliest." Your original argument was (and I paraphrase) "guns are illegal here ho ho ho" :p

Ofcourse you should. Everyone needs to know self defense. Learning it from her father could be potentially a better option as you can not only teach her how to defend herself but also help build her confidence and decision making.

That's just your interpretation of my point, the important points were: it is less likely to be a gun, more likely to be a knife. the part about guns being illegal was just evidence (very bad evidence, admittedly) to my argument. o_O
