Well, let's start from this principle: The art is subjective. BUT ( because here is a big "BUT" ), in our days we don't have art anymore. Almost everything is made for money. And, about this "rap" generation... This is not music, it's a fu***ng mess. They don't have any clear message. The problem is not just in the music industry, but everywhere: Movies, theatre plays, footbal [ yes, other than "sport", footbal (and here I'm referring to soccer ) is an art ( One of this kind of artist was Nicolae Dobrin )].

Why this happens in our days?

I think is all about education and respect.

Education: In our days people are not concentrate on the real education ( which is hard to achive ). If it would be possible, they'll study 4-6 universities without any time invested, just for the "diploma title". Without any kind of valuable education ( in this case, the history of arts and the history in general ) they are just like a sheeps. I will not continue here because it's a lot to debate.

Respect: Even in the past, most of the people had a lot of lack of respect for the others ( people, animals, nature, etc ) but in our days it's seems that this is very promoted and, if you respect others you became a fool in their eyes. A very bad influence for this is the internet itself. For example, any kid, without any kind of message, perspective or ethic, make a ( let's say ) Youtube channel and get thousands of subs. He suddenly become an influencer and promote his stupidities ( or his/her sponsor's manipulative messages ) to the other kids (See Tide Pods challenge, or etc ). Again, I will not continue here also, because it's a long debate.

Well, the question is what make this kind of, let's call "music", in our days to be so popular? It don't have any message ( about creativity, love, success or anything constructive and positive ). It may be the, let's call "vibration of the music" ( or the vibe )? It may be beat of the music? Or, just because a lot of not so smart people have access to the internet today and they increase the value of these non-value things ( and from this thing, the create the "Herd behavoir" )?

I'm going to take an unpopular opposing viewpoint and say that I actually like Lil Pump, Trippie Red, 6ix9ine, Lil Uzi, Xxxtentacion, Cardi B, and BlocBoy JB.

I think there needs to be a different genre of music made for these people tho. Clearly they are not lyrical rappers at all. If I want to listen to lyrical shit I would listen to J cole, joyner lucas, jay z, lil wayne (old lil wayne), etc.

These new age "rappers" clearly admit that they don't make lyrical good music. Instead, their music is turn up music that is just supposed to make you go crazy in the club without having to turn your brain on and listen to lyrics.

Also, 6ix9ine is smarter than you think. Everyone KNOWS he's not the king of NY but 6ix9ine knows that when he makes a statement like that, people will tune in. Lol, trust me, he knows what he is doing

This is a great post. You're right, there SHOULD be two different categories (at the moment everyone's just calling it mumble rap), and there's no reason why you can't like both. Nobody today who listens to these artists actually thinks of this music as (real) rap. People aren't stupid, they can listen to a Tupac song on Youtube and clearly see that he's infinitely more lyrical and deep than young thug or 6ix9ine.

Most people just enjoy this music because they usually have great beats and get you on a mini-high. They get you hyped up.

Now if we are to talk legacy, none of these new age "rappers" will EVER have a deep impact as legends from the past like nas, tupac, biggie, eminem, jay z, etc.

But here's another thing: even if these new age rappers become obsolete in 5 years (and they most definitely will) there will ALWAYS be a new slew of mumble rappers that will take their place simply because mumble rap has been proven to be an enjoyable form of "music" (if you can call it that lol)

At the same time, there will no doubt be new lyrical rappers coming onto the scene as well. I mean look at young MA, she's more lyrical than 80% of new rappers out today.

So for everyone who is saying hip hop is doomed, I would please ask you to reconsider. I think that is an extreme statement.
