Obviously you can make a living out of writing content/ it's called be a freelancer. If you're asking about being part of a content mill that's a bit different.
Well, I think it depends on what you think a fair amount of money is. Some people would gladly take 30 dollars because writing a 1000 word article is a piece of cake to them. Some writers actually write that fast, and they do proper research beforehand. You could also try blogging, but you would have to consider other social media outlets as well.
I don't think it takes that long. Like I said, a 1000 word article takes about an hour, if you are a fast typer, and if you are diligent enough to stay put until you are done.
I got the same feeling right awayHope you don't try selling it here![]()
Some time ago I was considering the idea of writing content as a full-time vocation. But, I have got busy working in another field. Now I plan to revisit this idea.
Unfortunately, I find that there is very little value placed on high quality content. Let me rephrase that. It is very difficult to find anyone willing to pay a fair rate for good content.
I write this from the perspective of living in the United States. In areas where the cost of living is lower the calculus changes.
Where I live a teenage babysitter can earn $50 for sitting in your home and watching television for an evening while your children are asleep. An adult babysitter can easily get $15 to $20 an hour or more (cash). While a house cleaner can earn the same amount of money scrubbing your toilet and dusting your furniture.
A "university trained, native English speaker" gets perhaps $30 for a well researched, 1000 word article including rewrites and this is considered a good rate. How many well researched, well written articles can one write in a day? How long should it take?
I realize that over time, if you are lucky you might cultivate clients who pay more. But it is not easy.
If I am coming at this all wrong and I am missing a key piece of information I would very much appreciate someone pointing this out.
You can write 3 well re-searched >1000 words per day.
At the rate of $30 per 1000words, you'll be making $90 per day.
Good luck!
$90 per day is not below the poverty line in the US of America. In the United States, $90 a day would allow you to qualify for a number of welfare programs as it would put you below the government's defined poverty level. Making a good living as an online marketer is just as elusive as doing so as a content writer. It most certainly can be done but most people underestimate the time it takes to establish yourself, the dedication and of course the talent required.
However, as on individual in this thread mentioned, writing content for your own site might be more productive.
$90 per day is not below the poverty line in the US of America.
It is actually amounts to about $2700 per month and $32400 per year.
The median annual household income in the US is about $50,000 but the median annual individual income in the US is $32,400

Making money online is hard work indeed; but, if you put in the work, you'll make it.
Off course, you need to know what you are doing.
If you become (somewhat) of an expert in a field you can ask a fair amount of money for your writing, perhaps even co-author (e-)books and negotiate a fee, both fixed for writing and perhaps even a % of sales revenue. But it will most likely take you months to build up that ‘status’.
If you can write engaging blog posts you could focus on writing on Medium or Steemit, as both have a way for you to earn income from the readers.
