Yep, I always suspected this... Apple is making older iPhones slower. They "claim" it is to help battery life, but why would they give a shit about an aging battery when they WANT batteries to die so they sell more phones. I expect law suits, and/or backlash.

Fucking brilliant move by Tim Cook. And Apple's stock pushes up today regardless. The small percentage of consumers who give a fuck and have bitch fits about their iPhone being slightly slower are the only ones you are going to hear from. Everyone else who can deal with the planned obsolescence concept is fine with their phone slowing down when they install an updated OS. Apple is a corporation. You holding onto your iPhone 5 for four years isn't contributing to their bottom line.

At least they aren't pushing $6 a month subscriptions tacked onto lifetime software licenses, am I right?

They're too big to fall into a simple law like that. Their lawyers will argue the phones are unsupported because of new launch, or some other bullshit.

My experience working at a 1 of the 3 big telecommunications companies in Canada (Telus), was quite fruitful during the times of iPhone releases. You wouldn't believe the amount of clients coming into the store complaining and asking us reps to reset their phones and "diagnose" other speed issues. We'd convert all the dummies to buy the newest model, because of course, it was "faster".

What was once just a conspiracy theory has now been proven a fact. Going to be interesting to see how they handle the backlash, which I think could be imminent.

The trick is to not update your firmware to the new iOS that's released WITH the latest model. You older iPhone isn't necessary designed to handle that upgrade.

I don't know, i have been using iPhone for years, all have 3 years+ life span. The only reason i change my iPhones are just because i got bored. I still have my iPhone 4s (6 years - my nephew is using), iPhone 6 (3 years+ - my gf is using it) and I am using iPhone 7+.

The trick is don't just update everything, just like Window, the auto update is killing the performance.

I have iphone 6 and it was the best phone which i loved until updated to iOS 11. Now i can say its trash and so far 2-3 more iOS updates nothing help, every single app i have is lagging or when typing text, browsing same thing, also so many other things that i dislike. I dont want to buy samsung again because i had one it sucks too but this with Apple is very bad because their products are expensive..

You can't change the phone battery. You can't use a SD card. You need adapters. The glass shatters easily, made on purpose. And people stand in lines for new ones..
