Remove "Introductions" Forum

I agree, if they want to post a welcome or a little bit of a welcome, maybe do it on their profile...

I'm sorry but what happens when new members don't feel welcome and they stop coming back.

We have to constantly welcome new members so that this forum doesn't die out

I disagree with this because I've been here 4 years and never bothered posting in the introductions section.

I don't think removing the introductions section is a good idea though, some people like to introduce themselves before randomly posting anywhere. I do think that replies in that section shouldn't add to post counts though to stop all the useless spam.

I remember reading an ebook about building communities online from feverbee.com and they found that in online communities people rarely return after creating an account.

However, if they post something after making an account their chance of return increases significantly.

New members aren't familiar to bhws layout but they do understand the "introduction" forum section because every online forum has one

We constantly need new members to replenish the old members that leave

Actually instead of an intro section where they can fill out any old crap, new members should fill out a public questionnaire of what they will bring to BHW, what they are looking to achieve, knowledge and experience etc
Then they have to get voted in.
If they don't want to fill in the questionnaire then they have to donate to join.
Just an idea.

What would be interesting would be to see some general stats on members such as how many (%age) members opened an intro thread, how many of those users went on to create 10+ posts, how many got 50+ likes etc

This would be purely to satisfy an interest more than anything but it would also go to show whether the intro section is an integral part of an online community or if it is just a place for noobs to let others know they exist.

I support the idea of removing it from contributing to post count. Can't count the number of times I see intro posts being bumped by noobs pumping their post count.

I cant see your problem with Introduction section. Btw post count is a BS,even for Jr.Vip you have to pay to get it,its not free after 100 posts, so what's the matter?
The only advantage that post count gives you is some freebies/giveaways that require ex:50post min.

Introduction section is a must if you wanna build a solid community,like a family, cause it matters for some people to feel welcomed.
As for the newbies who just post "welcome man",well just dont bother.

I think that's a good compromise....and I bet it will lower the replies anyways, if these padders knew it didn't count...

on the flip side of shutting it down, its easy to track a deliberate15 post spam

I know this wasn't necessarily directed at me, but I figured I would reply with my perspective.

It doesn't bother me seeing the intro threads, it's the intent behind the responses.

It gives a 100 post sample of what can be expected of the member. It also helps prevent people from coming on here, buying the JVIP and posting a sales thread without understanding how the forum works. They basically have 100 posts to make mistakes, figure out the forums culture and actually make some contacts before opening a sales thread to crickets.

The $97 pay wall I think is a very valuable tool because it shows which people were willing to invest a little bit into their presence on this forum. There is a night and day difference between forums that are completely free, forums that are pay only, and forums like this that are in-between.

The forums that are exclusively free are almost always overrun by spam and the mods are overworked having to watch for it. The forums that are pay only are noticeably quieter, but much more civil and generally higher quality content is provided. BHW has a good mix. You get the thread volume of free forums (along with some of the spam that comes with it) as well as a lot of great high quality content.

The fees I pay also allow for BHW to have the mod team that I only have good things to say about. My interactions have always been good and they've always been responsive.

This thread exists because a lot of the reasons we see people responding to these threads with "welcome man" is specifically because it affects their post count. I think dis-incentivizing it would make for a more authentic "welcome wagon" experience.

Anyways, that's just my opinion. Hopefully it helps clarify my views on those topics

Wow, are you sure you don't hang in the deep web a lot ?. I believe this should be done for some sort of private forum not the public one. And if you can use money to get yourself in, then it's useless

Anyway, I never used the introduction forum and I don't know why do we need one. However, I am happy the rules doesn't force you to introduce yourself as I know many of forums do.

Yes I agree, I am new here and only found this site from Google, but at the same time you need to have some way for people to interact.
