Does Anyone Else Hate the New Google Keyword Tool?

Big G's new ky tool is HORRIBLE. The option to use the "previous interface" is now gone :eek: and I'm pissed. I have also noticed a huge shift in the reported number of searches per month in the new tool, which isn't surprising, as some of the reported results were way out of line previously.

So the question is, do I stick with G's ky tool or defect elsewhere? Thoughts? Recommendations?

Yeah... google has taken many steps backwards lately...

Destroying AdWords conversion rates with instant.
Fubaring online retailers & the job market with Caffeine to make a buck.
Copying Bing as if they were worthy of being copied.
Support? What support? Their TOS specifically say "F!@#$ the customer! We're google."
Besides the 5 or 6 things they do well they have hundreds of pathetically failed ventures.

The cool google of the past has turned into the bloated "bottom-line driven" evil doer they tried so hard not to be. I'm rooting for MS to take them down and I don't use MS products.

Still the best keyword tool out there. Until another search engine becomes at least a 30% stakeholder of market share to make their keyword metrics have value then google's tool is the only standard to operate by. Everyone else is hard pressed to demonstrate reliability even as a relative performance indicator. (Google barely does that too, but one step removed... crazy talk... maybe in addition to G's tool but certainly not instead of)

I want to say... F! G! and tell you to go somewhere else, but for the time being... my advice is keep using there tool and quietly hate them as many more have begun to do.
 
If you miss the old numbers which are very very misleading go for MarketSamurai and Semrush (actually Semrush is great but it sometimes uses the DB of Old KWT).

Belive me the new KWT is great. It is much more helpful, accurate and informative regarding the old one. Try to get used to it. You will love it eventually. And it has got two new embedded tools:

1- Traffic Estimator (Not new actually but not known by most people now integrated with KWT)
2- Ad Placement Tool (If naming is wrong, sorry for that. I just wrote what I remember)
 
the thing I hate most is now I cannot select good kw and add them to the right column and move to next search. It's really annoying. However, the new report in new csv format is better, consist data from last months. If they add back the right side bar feature, it will be fine.
 
I like the old tool better also. The main reason being that with the old tool you could easily pick broad, exact and phrase matches and switch between the two. With the new one you can still achieve this functionality, but it's far more cumbersome to do so.
 
I hate the API changes... Keyword suggestions used to cost 20 API units for 300 keyword suggestions now it costs 300 API units for 300 suggestions without any stats with them and 1000 Units is $0.25... For SEO services it murders my margins and causes me to "pass the savings" on to my customers... Google's argument being... unless you're using the tool for SEO speculation you wont notice the price hike... well... that's every small business or larger out there... the costs will translate eventually into hosting, registrar, and bandwidth costs... We've already seen what online sales losses equate to in US store closures and job losses... It's entertaining when their plausible deniability campaigns shift to "We're smart, but not that smart. Those things are all coincidences. We just happened to short these companies and invest in those and our policies and knowledge of our own algorithms and procedures didn't influence those investment at all."

They never actually made that statement, but you and I know that a week after seeing their logs our stock portfolios would be changing and probably drastically. If the practice is legal then google should offer an investment fund managed within the web search team and analytics team. They'd corner that market too.

Google's new keyword tool is wonderful. Whatever google does, no matter, what will my constituents and I greatly. Even if they shut off for a day or so. Thank you google.

He owns stock. ;) LOL. It is still the only tool to use at the moment. I concede that... You can supplement with other tools but you'd be risking a lot to replace it at the moment.

I agree that there isn't much else out there. That's what's frustrating. I feel like the new KY tool tries to "hide the ball" and make it much harder to determine what good keywords are out there. Something needs to change!
 
Luckely there are still enough good programs that do a good job.
I use the keyword tool for google adwords but I agree that the previous version was way better.

Yeah... They only want to provide keywords for picking which words to bid on. They don't want to provide keywords for people wanting to make sites perform for SEO. It's why there tool isn't totally awesome yet doesn't entirely suck and that's where it will stay until google gets a competitor.

Alright, so I get the sense that I'm stuck with G's ky tool, but, out of curiosity, what other ky tools are you all using or would consider using if G's ky tool died tomorrow?
 
I hate the new tool and the info it gives is a mess. Ive seen keywords that super competitive show up as low competition and other strange reports. I also like to be able to make a list of hundreds of keywords like in the old tool, not a few at a time each requiring a new .csv I honestly dont know how anyone can use this tool effectively the information is so misleading.
