I'm bidding on a listing on flippa for about $3500-$4000. I asked what payment he preferred and he said paypal.

I know that the buyer for virtual goods like this has a huge advantage on paypal as they can't prove shipment.. So anyways, should I go through with paypal or insist on escrow?

Thanks

As a buyer, you're extremely safe paying via paypal (I don't think it's fair). I'm not sure why the seller chose paypal, especially for that amount of money.

Seems a little fishy to me. Either he is up to something or he's selling his first site. I would look into the sellers history, just to be safe.

Exactly.

Even though a possible dispute is likely to end in your favour, PayPal can only return funds that are still present in the account so if it turns out to be a scam, you send the cash via PayPal and only later find out that you don't get the site transferred then in that time the seller can easily empty their PayPal account and there will be nothing for PP to recoup.

Above $1k always Escrow!

For less amount Paypal is ok. For this much amount you can better go for Escrow. Because pay pal will return the amount which will be present in the account only. If the paypal account is empty means you can not do anything. Escrow is best for high amount.

The Commissionin Paypal is quite high ...... so its strage to use it.

PayPal always finds the buyer in favor, they like the play favorites. :D

You are safe buying via paypal. When good not received you can raise complain and paypal with recover funds/ cover you up.

Check if receiver operates verified paypal account.
