Hey Guys,

Been a member of this forum for some time and it has given me some great ideas that have turned profitable. Tiime to give back, not sure if anyone is doing this, but it was a method that worked great for me. I had about a 12% close rate.

Method

This kind of just fell all together for me. It started with a law firm that I got connected to through a friend. They had a website built on Yahoo's website builder. If you have seen these websites they are very simple, stupid looking honestly. I basically pitched a simple but effective redesign to their website.

Here is an example of a target website --> http://www.marcbkramer.com

If you notice in the footer it says: "Powered by Yahoo! Web Hosting". So, I took this and placed it in Google like this --> "Powered by Yahoo! Web Hosting" "location". I was amazed at how many sites were open for redesign. If you go to these websites, usually the email can be swiped, as well as a number, and in some cases an address.

I did double check with who is, as most were open, and offered another number and email to contact if the published one was different.

I quickly made a list of 130 websites (granted I do live in a populated area), I grouped them by niche, lot's of lawyers, accountants, and freelancers (writers, comedians, etc)

I started with email, as well as mailed them a letter in the mail. I stole the idea of the dice from 7878, but put my own twist and put these ipad stylus pens inside the envelope instead. I actually have 200 laying around so it was easier then buying dice, but if anyone wanted to know I paid $1.00 per pen, it's a pen and a ipad stylus. I got them through alibaba.

In my letter, well really a couple pages, I didn't pitch anything but a simple redesign. Nothing about SEO, marketing, etc. I took a screenshot of their website, and put it next to a photoshop mockup of what their site could look like. Emphasized on social media integration and great branding. Really I just changed a couple layers in Photoshop for each niche.

  1. So we had a cover letter that just asked them if they were happy with their Yahoo website
  2. Side by Side, Before and After Pic
  3. Price List, started at $500 and had a catalog of a few add ons

I emailed, mailed, and after 5 days I followed up with a phone call. Of course I received a few disgruntled prospects, in fact, I called one comedian at 1:30pm and he was upset that I was waking him, and I should know he works late nights. However, in the end I received 15 customers from that list of 130.

Why I'm telling you...

Just saying this really worked, think about how many locations there are. Personally, I chose to just work in my location. I'm happy with my workload, so take this and duplicate it in your location or go bigger!

Best of luck!

I'm glad to hear about your success, this is a great method for finding new prospects looking for a redesign. What's even more great is this also filters out the clients who don't see the value in a website.

Thanks for the method wasted! Have read many like this however you put a nice twist on it. out of the 15 you worked with did any upgrade to seo, Branding, or social media marketing? Also always try to add something free to give them incentive to work with you. Like free on page seo, maybe 1 of your add on's, or keyword research.

Hey, thanks for the comments glad you liked it. From those 15, I have 2 that turned into a couple more projects, "web ideas" that they have. I'm not a big fan about offering SEO services, I know it's great money, but my resources are limited there and I fear being "liable" for their rankings.

I'm more in media buying and paid traffic so that is where I go with my upsells.

Also... keep in mind other companies do the same --> "created with 1&1 websitebuilder"

that's not the only company that leaves a massive footprint across all of their overpaying customers' sites.

Very Inspiring post ! Congratulation for the twists of the 7878 method and congratulation to have found your own path to it !

More posts like this everyone one would be golden

congrats on the 15. Keep it up and you will do well, and I also agree not a wasted method.

Now this seems pretty cool...Did you just create a word press website for them?

Did you create a new domain name for them or keep the old one?

Thanks for sharing

nice Method,I need to find a friend to do the design, so I could contact the local sites XD.

This is such a great post and so helpful to me looking for work. Thanks so much for sharing it!

Excellent twist sir. It's amazing how quickly the money comes in when you work for it.

Congrats

This is such an awesome technique. I am thinking to further add some twist to this and might work out on my own stratergy

Clever idea, lots of potential and lots of ways to further monetize if they're interested in a re-design.

Very nice idea! The price point sounds kind of low to me though. Especially for Lawyers, Accountants etc. I wonder if you pitched a higher price what would've been the results..

Sometimes because people associate price with quality, it even helps the conversion if people think you are too cheap..
