How are sites bypassing Adblock Plus and displaying ads?

I've seen this more and more on sites. I have adblock plus enabled, but lots of sites are still able to display ads. Here's one, you'll see the ads under the post:

Mousing over an ad shows it's being hosted on http://contentr.net/ but if you go there, it just shows this message:

Hi, I am your new HeroFW app!

Each site that is able to do this, the ads are being hosted with different domains, but the ads are the same. It somehow looks like it's content the site is hosting themselves, but the domain the ads point to are different.

I've used tools to inspect the code, but I don't see how they are doing this. Does anyone know?

Some ad networks aren't blocked by Adblock.

I think the r after content in the url posted means redirect.

Many ad networks have it so their ads pass through various analytic zones so that might be why they sneak through.

Something worth noticing is that they don't use any image elements, instead they load the picture trough a span class background.
Which ofc ain't named something along the lines of "Ads".

I was using peerfly generated ad code for image banners on my websites which was blocked by adblock.
So I swaped image links and hosted them on imgur or my website itself , and it was automatically appearing on the webpage.
so in case your ads are static or if you are using openads etc it is easier to beat them.
Few weeks ago I had stumbled on a javascript code that blocks content if adblock is detected in browser .

If you really want All ads being turned off you should use adblock edge, because adblock plus is allowing adsense and some other networks, that's why you can still find them on chrome store and not adblock edge.

Yeah seems like that particular network is blocked. For me personally, I do a lot of affiliate stuff and so I always host the images locally. Amazon, eBay, other affiliates...all that stuff gets wiped out by AdBlock, but if I've done it manually, there's no way for AdBlock to know. It's important for me not just because I want my users to see and interact with the ads, but also because it's harder to create a consistent visual experience when your ads show only some of the time.

THe ads may be hosted on a different website and pulled in with an iframe.

Are you trying to block these ads or just understand how it works? Router level ad blocking can't really be beat. Run tomato or dd-wrt with ad block feature and the server can't even be found when a site tries to load an ad.

I've noticed this too. On inspecting the page source, I found that the ads are being displayed in an iframe. Iframes can be used to display complete webpages within a parent webpage. So what I noticed was that these pages created iframes that are of the same size as the ads(banner, skyscraper etc.) and the ads are perfectly aligned inside these iframes. Now, the reason why they are not being blocked by your ad blocker is that the blocker works only on the current webpage and not on the nested webpages(iframes). Now this is what I have analyzed. Please correct me if i am wrong.

Native ads seem not to be getting blocked, sometimes they mix related ads with related content so adblockers don't seem to be blocking them at the moment

they are simply using iframe to pull data from other domains in this way adblock wouldn't work as it contains only listed URL to block ........ not some iframe ads .......... Also if you want to block them all the use firefox & addon called NoScript Security Suite which would allow you to bypass & allow only those ads or js or iframe that you want to see ........ so its way little bit more secure & give you much more control on which ads you want to see & or not .

This has been increasing as of late on the amount of ads that I've seen as well. I'm not sure if adblock is making some type of agreement with certain ad networks or are they just using an iframe as noted.
