Thought I'd share a method with BHW that I can't use anymore. I've never heard any mention of this affilliate program here, so hopefully this could help somebody.
A couple of years ago I found this price comparison engine called Shopzilla (shopzilla<dot>com), that has an affiliate program working on a CPC model. They have a tool called Beso (affiliates<dot>beso<dot>com) for text links and banners with monetized offers, but don't tell you what they pay for what until you start working with them and analyze their reports. In my experience I had from $0.01 to $0.14. I tried putting those on my websites, but couldn't get any decent conversions - their banners were just way too plain and I couldn't get any conversions with text links despite roughly 1k+ a day of UV per site. I guess my content was just too good.
Then I thought I'd put my graphic design/creative advertising education to good use and try to create my own banners (with text links attached to them) that would look less like ads and more like content. I put those in the sidebars and "Top Products" posts, which were retweeted with TraffUp.net. That had a pretty nice effect and my earnings went up to $15 - 20 a day. Below are a few examples from my NBA basketball niche site, where sneakers were my main moneymaker.

This lasted for about half a year with no problems until I decided to find a way to increase my earnings even further.
A lot of the traffic came from twitter, so, with the manager's permission, I decided to put the text links to the products directly into tweets (I had 10+ accounts with around 40k followers between them and Tweet Adder autoposting). The problem was not enough choice of products for my niches, so I spun the tweets into 40 variants each. I also used a link shortener bot that would make 40 variants of each link and mixed the tweets up with relevant jokes and quotes to avoid Twitter's banhammer. The important thing was to monitor all the products reports and swap out the ones that gave the least or zero per click. In 20 days I was able to raise the earnings to $150 a day and then I got the dreaded letter from my affiliate manager and my account got suspended over not getting enough sales.
So now I twisted that method up a little bit and trying to use it with Amazon and NexTag, but still thought I'd share the Shopzilla/Beso method because maybe people with other niches and/or higher quality traffic could make some money this way. Just remember to not make the same mistake that I did ? increase your earnings slowly and use your best judgment on how much $$ a day will be safe.
