Brief on Building an Authority Site to Make Money!

This is not a full blown brief on building an Authority Site nor is it by any means a dummies guide but it gives you the nuts and bolts of how to get to build and set up to become an AS and make some money.

Preamble
Buy the URL and get hosting and go live with a good looking professional template! If the URL is a name that?s brandable great but if not all ok but it must at best be pronounceable if it cannot be read easily.

Content
Think you all know about unique and original text around 300 words is fine. Now here is a great way to get viral pickups and free backlinks to your site ? do this every 3 or 4 days ? add in to the content a snippit of info from a site that is of similar interest to the content subject write say one sentence about them ? if you add copy n paste text then add ? Attribution to xyz.com and then add a back link to the site. That will pay you back in time with free viral links from third party sites to your URL. Plan to publish 300 to 500 articles ideally building with new daily content. Say 70% 300 words and 30% around 500 words

Channel Bar
Channel Bar is a must with more than minimum 4 up to 14 drop down menu bar channels probably the best is say 10. Why because you are building an AS which means that when the site becomes an AS the indexing will be ? Site URL + 4 Site Links which will then build to Site URL + 6 Site Links and now often to be seen Site URL + 8 Site Links. I just checked a big media site and it had Site URL + 9 Site Links indexed

Team
Build in team of writers and contributors some may see this as cosmetic ? never the less it impresses and looks good from a professional angle ? and guess what "JBG" need this on all or any sites that may eventually finish up on GN so it is worth setting up when one winds the clock and prepares for the future. Team is not mandatory but it helps. You will qualify for AS without this it is not mandatory, it is simply helpful when planning ahead.

Timeline for AS
How ?long is a piece of string? it depends on the builder if you do not commit and stay the course then do not expect to get the ?AS? grade!

Making Money
I believe all AS sites make money ? how much? Easy build one and find out!

Legend
AS ? meaning ? Authority Sites
GN ? meaning ? G News
"JBG" for our purposes here replace "JBG" with the G SE!

The reason why I compiled a legend is not for any other reason than showing respect some sites do not wish to see referrals here there and everywhere and if we add attribution every time we will never finish the brief!

Actually I can sort of answer this. You need lots of fresh content, I add content daily at the moment and I've ordered enough to last me for a month now. This is not a MNS where you add articles once or twice a week. The more content you have, the more authoritative your site is.

I have lots of keywords targeted to my niche. So in a way, each keyword + article is sort of like my 'MNS'. I am combining the search volume of the all the low comp keywords and trying to rank them. I would also think that an authority site should at least have a minimum of 100 pages of content.

First for example if the site is new - add say 10 unique articles one article one new page - watch them get indexed then look on your stats for incoming keyword traffic - those are then the ones you want to rank higher - then as always - do the same again - ie rinse and repeat

Thanks nickt you are on the right track there - one point to focus on you want at least 7 strong pages channel bars that will eventually be the ones that are picked to give the site AS ranking.

Could you elaborate on the channel bars more? What is your insight on backlinking inner pages? I suppose you own a few authority sites too? How are they doing?

Channel Bars
Say you have a gardening site with 10 Channels say Tools ? Shrubs ? Lawn et al ? when some of the keywords you are using for these channels start getting SE keyword traffic then is the time to push the KW?s higher up the SE

Backlinking Inner Pages
Of course inner pages are likely to be channel bar pages and when you get backlinks for them they rank better in the SE.

Authority Sites
Have two one is just being fitted with a new skin and some new functionality ? had 3 but moved one on.

How are they doing?
They do great and have paid back the ROI many times over!

Do you have any wordpress themes/templates you recommend that are good for adsense? People say "thesis" but thats just a customisable theme, unless they mean a clean install. Any that are ready from the get-go?

This is ironic because I recently read an e-book talking about building an authority site around a product to build a 6 figure income. The thing is... Google could easily slap my site because of ONE post, so it's not worth it, especially if my site gets slapped in its early stages.

Your post is a good source of info about building an authority site. I think that making money online can be lucrative depending on your own efforts. Your posts seems complete and useful for those who want to build an authority site. It would be better if there are people from BHW who can prove that this is effective.

If it gets slapped in the early stages, no loss - its basically just a MNS anyway.

By building an authority site you're a lot less likely to get slapped. Your MNS's are waaaay more likely to get penalized.

With respect the G view business differently they are a revenue company and I can assure you they do not slap sites that make legit big revenue - and a SLAP for one post on an AS is absurd!

Thanks for the post if you are adding new original and unique content on daily basis - then in 6 to 9 months you should be AS ranked

This is based on part time work on the site

Of course also which is great you will be working on building your site and can watch the ad revenue coming in say from 1 month after you start the site
