JVManager - Some folks have suggested that jvmanager is a more product oriented membership script.
Butterfly Marketing Script (BFM) - These same folks who talked about BFM have suggested that the butterflymarketing script is a more customer oriented or list building oriented membership script. The BFM owner used to have a hosted version butterfly*marketingh0sted.c0m but the website isn't taking new customers, apparently.
v*Tribes.c0m - Mike Fill Same (filsaime) of BFM fame, set up v*Tribes which is a hosted membership and community website solution. Costs you between USD$100 to USD$997 to setup (depending on plan) and USD$97 monthly. Newer but is it better ???
Launchforumula Marketing script - was cited to be a cheaper alternative to butterfly marketing script. Had a newer version released a while back. I think they used to have USD$97 for the Lite version but the new version 2.0 costs USD$997 (1 time).
Amember (or amember Pr0) is a membership site script that many guru courses have mentioned and recommended. Seems to be a decent script but have problems with integrating with autoresponders (i.e. people need to sign up twice, first to amember, then to the autoresponder such as A*weber).
Member*gate.c0m - was suggested to be a high-end membership script and it costs loads of $$$$$...like $4,000 and upwards

hot*scripts.c0m - might have some other PHP membership scripts....that you can look at and consider...beware of bugs and backdoor access for some of the stuff from there, maybe?
If you're programming and technically savvy, I've been told that W0rdpress and J00mla can be good useful membership platforms. Some posts in some techie forums have suggested J00mla-based membership sites have many bugs and need to be well planned and well integrated from the start. Otherwise, it's hell to debug and troubleshoot down the road...I wouldn't have a clue about this..
I wonder though... unless you have used 2 or more of such scripts or softwares for some time, that it might be difficult to compare and tell which might be the better membership site software?
Plus it might be hard to compare apple for apple because often, it depends on what your membership site is supposed to do and who it (i.e. your market) is supposed to serve.
