[How To] Fancier images in less than 60 seconds!

Which image do you prefer - squared corners or rounded corners?



I almost always prefer rounded corners.

Here is how a round my image corners in under 60 seconds using the excellent and free graphics program Paint.net (freely available at http://www.GetPaint.net).

The original image looks like this:

1) Open your image in Paint.net

2) Using the layers tool - add a new layer.

3) Using the Shapes tool - select the rounded rectangle shape and also select "Draw Filled Shape". Do this using a color not in your image (my image is white,black, and gold so I used yellow for the new layer. See image below:



4) In one corner of your image hold down your left mouse button and move across the image diagonally so the shape is drawn.

5) Now with the magic wand select inside the filled shape. You image should look like this now:



6) Delete the new layer.

7) Select Edit -> Invert Selection. Your image now looks like:



8) Delete the newly selected area by hitting the delete key once.

9) Save as a .png file so the transparent corners are stored correctly. Now your image looks like:



10) Take the rest of the day off - 60 seconds of work is tough!

Or if you're using the image on a webpage, just use the border-radius CSS property to achieve a similar effect.

haha kinda cool. I would just use a background that just fits what I am trying to display the ad on.

why paint.net when we have photoshop ?

I like the rounded edges as well. And it certainly does not look that hard to do!
