Why i Quite my Business....!

I thought this was a good read.

Talking with other sales people, small biz guys/gals, the conclusion was "being self-employed" is NOT EASY.

I then ran across this article which i found to be very insightful.

The real question is why to quit your job to chase a dream? First, create a solid base regarding money and then build. I guess this is the downside of 'startup' culture.

I don't even get this article. Yeah if you run out of money, get a job, or if your business clearly isn't working, switch your vision or strategy. If you don't have a vision why the f*ck did you start a business in the first place. I can't even

LOL...what's the Great Conundrum?

The article that i referred is written by a Shrink that specializes in Counseling Entrepreneurs.

The 2nd read was even better. The dude left his consulting firm and started his own. Sounds like he busted his arse and nearly had a heart attack in the process. Getting a biz off the ground and profitable is tough work and a lot of hours.

If you're having trouble grasping the "theme" of this thread, perhaps this proverb will make things clear: "A wise man looks far to his going and before he starts out, he counts the costs."


(enough ppl on this forum have gone broke chasing an UN-REALISTIC goal they never had a chance in achieving).

Who cares if people have unrealistic goals? They'll crash and burn, get back up, and learn from their failures. If not, they're not made out to be self-employed, and should work for someone who can.

Working from home making less than what your would earn on a 9-5 does not make sense. And being self employed sometimes requires more than 8 hours per day. Just do the balance in your particular case. It also depends on where the marketer lives in. Someone from Norway or Australia ( average monthly income +$3000 ) would hardly cross that amount every month in the long run from the internet. Online earnings can fluctuate a lot. But another person living in a third world country ( ~500usd / month) with some online experience would easily get that from home with less effort and time invested than working on behalf of a third party.

Edit to add the following:
First time I read this forum was earlier than 2011. Only a few members among the 1000s registered at that time keep active actually , which means than making a living from IM from the long term point of view is not easy. Even someone making a killing this year, could go to zero in 2017. The point is never give up when your income source gets fucked up. When one door get closed , another one is opening.

Fair points. Dunno, to me it just seems like telling entrepreneurs that "it's okay to get a job" in any capacity is the best way to stall yourself in the learning process, unless you are genuinely out of money. I'm sure there are plenty of people who were feeling stressed out with their new businesses, got jobs, and then came back onto the entrepreneurship scene 100x stronger than before... but I'd bet that's rare. I don't think it's good advice, seems like giving up when you are feeling down, unmotivated, or stressed out, maybe that's just me.

Regardless thanks for posting this because the lounge is DEAD today and I need to post edgy comments somewhere

That's a joke, of course. I'm not sure why it seems lifeless today.

If you can't spell simple words like "quit", you probably shouldn't be running a business! Given, it just may not be your native tongue..

you dont have to do one or the other you can sample your chosen venture in your spare time while doing your 9-5. also I dont think anyone who is going to succeed at IM will every truly quit, if you're going to succeed it will be all you think about

OP did you write that article? I just don't get why you'd recommend such a bland, scrappy... noshit wash of useless gobbledygook. We're talking brain hemorrhage level writing here. It's dangerous. If you can't keep it off BHW least you could do is post it on WF.

If you want to write a real article maybe something about how people getting into their own money making swing should cut out ALL of their extra expenses and be prepared to work harder than they ever have and re-invest almost everything for a good while.

LOL....no, i'm not a licensed Shrink who counsels entrepreneurs. Actually if you read about the author, he's a business psychologist who helps entrepreneurs and companies assess risks and over come challenges involved in start ups. What's the damage in seeing things the way they are? Doing start ups (and i've done several, some successful, and some fell flat) is risky and knowing the risks in advance will help in making the right choices. Read his about section. He explains the why.

True, but i didn't write the article. Just pointing out a read that someone else wrote explaining the pros and cons on startups.

Nah....that's not what he's saying at all. Its not a dream killer article...its more about seeing Reality and acting upon Reality, not dreaming or "hoping" what reality is. IF you don't have the $ to hold yourself over the tough times, your taking too much of a risk. Better to save some $ and refocus with a better plan. Nothing wrong with working for someone and learning.

*I'm reading the book, "self-made billionaire effect" and 99% of those guys made it by working for companies and then leaving with their own ideas and some $ to make it happen. They didn't take unnecessary risks...they knew they would get funded for their ideas...and now they are billionaires. Check it out.

Here's another Funny story, i used to work for a Billionaire who could barely read....he didn't have to. With the press of one button, he could call anyone of a handful of college graduate employees who could read any article to him or write any letter with great eloquence and he would sign it. LESSON LEARNED: You don't have to spell perfectly to become a billionaire, BUT you have to know your business inside and out.
