Crazy roi on recycling cans?!

I have a funny yet kind of cool business idea: Tell me what you think about this

In California you can take cans to the recycling center and get $.

$.05/Can

Therefore:

20 cans= $1
2,000 cans= $100
20,000 cans= $1,000
60,000 cans=$3,000

60,000 cans= 2k cans/day

2k cans/day at an 8 hour work day = 250 cans/hour

Hiring an employee to collect cans 8 hours a day for 30 days= $2,400 at $10/hour (Min)

Boom. $600 Profit Per Month

Who would we hire? Homeless People

The profit goes into scaling with better equipment and hiring other homeless people. I'm imagining we could get a bunch of motivated people up off the streets

Whatcha think?

I think it's brilliant, as long as the homeless people don't require medical insurance. You'd also be helping to keep our environment clean, just like every hippy ever wants.

Where the hell would you even find that many cans?

I rarely see homeless people with actual equipment. I'm imagining giving them super big power carts that allow them to carry 10-20x more cans per trip to the recycling center than the safeway carts that they load up and take trip after trip too
 

If I was homeless, it would be an amazing idea.

On the other hand, as a business man, I would go to every business and make a deal with them to collect every can they have free of charge everyday.

BOOM. $3,000/profit per month for you.

Big cities, I know big businesses throw away tons of cans every day. We could collect those and recycle those cans

Open to ideas though! Add to this :)

Already thought of doing this :) The only flaw in the plan, either way, is that I'm not sure whether or not the recycling center has 3k+ (once we scale) to cash us out every month
 
Once the homeless people realise they can do it without you they will, just because they're homeless doesn't mean they are stupid. good theory though, what about employment laws if you are employing them yourself?
 
This reminds me of something they do over in St. Louis. One of the arenas there hires homeless people to clean up after every event. The person gets $20 cash once they finish cleaning up. I think it might take like an hour or two if they hire enough people.

How many recycling centers are in the area?

In amsterdam they get the local alcoholics to do it, and pay them in beer.

Easy solve to that problem, get them making enough money to get into homes and on computers.. then enroll them in my continuation program free of charge for 90 days until they're killing it online :) (after 90 days $120/month recurring) BOOM. They'll never go back to cans

Then we help out the next batch and on and on Not sure about the employment laws though. What do you guys think?

Love it! Only one in my direct area but I'm sure they're six or seven within a 45 minute parameter

If I was a homeless guy, I would be using giant wheelie bins not shopping carts.

This kind of thinking is probably why I am not homeless though.

Although it could be an opportunity to make some extra cash, you should "recycle" this small-time mindset with methods and/or ideas that could lead you to early retirement. Look for methods that can produce "fuck you" money. Not trying to dis your idea cause it ultimately would help the environment, but you can't be considering recycling cans for money when you could literally make 6 figs a year by simply applying methods that are found on this forum, can you?
