He's probably looking to become a millionaire, plus, how the fuck can you get so much glitter and ship it? And, it could be taken as an act of idk what, but yeah, he's the lucky dude, what can we say.
 
I didn't find exactly how he's shipping it. But a lot of viral glitter videos is flowing up on the social media websites. What is this kiddo thinking ?

He just wants to cash out at the peak of viralness. The site was only created 18 days ago. At what point does being greedy have a negative effect? I mean he got $60k worth of bids in one day and he doesn't have to ship 6,000 orders for that $60k.

I don't know. I honestly like the concept better than that "sendaball" shit on SharkTank. And they were asking for a $325k evaluation.

Sending a ball to someone really isn't such a fun idea. But viciously sticking a knife through an envelope full of glitter... that's just hilarious. Cause people wouldn't just use it for their enemies. I think most would send it to their friends as a joke... which widens the net of potential buyers.

TBO, I don't think the kid knows what he's doing like the OP said. And I'm not sure most people on here would know exactly what to do in his situation. If it was me, I'd outsource distribution, get the site live immediately, dump some money and keep the press releases going, let other media outlets pick it up... I think it would blow up over the next few months.. maybe hit a peak 6-12 months from now... take a slow nose dive and fizzle out over the next year or 2 or 3.

That's retirement type money. But selling out this early in the game, based on the frenzy of bidders, the sales, traffic, media attention.... seems like the stupidest thing he can do right now.
 
Because anyone can copy this idea, would just become commodity pricing
 
The one thing to keep in mind is that there are very few barriers to entry for that kind of business.

Well I guess selling the website is a realistic move from the owner even though there is still room for tweak the business. But I wonder if someone probably the "victim" will sue him. :)

And I still believe he could've made a smarter move, unless its sold for half million$ or something close. Don't forget that its getting mentioned by many big ,real big websites like techrunch,huffpost and etc.. Plus the viral videos its generating.
I dont see that impossible he gets an investment of 1million$ at all. That happened a lot before like the app Yo if you guys remember it.

IMO, an app is different from sending glitter. Anyone can send glitter to their enemy (at least anyone who has the mental and physical ability to purchase from the guy's website). Not everyone can code in order to create an app.
 
There is a similar service that sends public lice instead of glitter.

But, I don't blame the kid for putting his glitter site up on flippa. I'd probably do the same thing.

No he's not. A website like this can take a huge turn overnight, go downwards and never rise again. I probably would have done the same, namely sell that cash printer while still working.

He is doing exactly the right thing.

Yes, the site has been inundated with orders, but that's primarily because it's getting a lot of media attention.

He knows that attention (and therefore the increased orders) is temporary, so this is the perfect time to sell.

And as has been pointed out by others, the barrier to entry is virtually non-existent. Anyone with a bag of glitter, a box of envelopes and some postage stamps can become a competitor.

There are copycat sites springing up already, so the price (and profit) will start falling rapidly.

He could end up with $100K for less than a month's work this way and the media will be watching his future projects too, so his next project is already guaranteed publicity.

If he plays it right, he will make a great deal more money from the next project - and I guarantee the VC community will be watching him now too.

He's a smart guy
 
I would do the same as him. It's going to finish at over $100k starting from a simple idea he had on holiday!
The thing is if you don't really have the drive or passion to take a certain project to the next level, cashing in while the iron is hot is smart. Best of luck to him.
