Hey Blackhatters! Should I move to your area?

I tend to change country (or at least location) every 3-6 months (depending on visa issues) and I'm looking for a new place to go. The plan was to head to Guatemala next but between the earth exploding and sinking it doesn't seem like the best place to be at the moment. So, I'm looking for suggestions. I'm open to pretty much anywhere in the world. Here's what I need:

I'm a US Citizen so it should be relatively easy to get a decent-length visa (at least 3 months).

It needs to be somewhere a single white woman can go and not be overly concerned about being a target. Less concerned about personal safety than about verbal harassment every time I walk down the street.

I need to be able to live on less than $600 USD/month.

I need to be able to work so I have to have decent internet access through either wifi cafes, private service or a phone provider/usb connection - at a decent price.

I prefer to be near water or mountains (or both!) so I can do outdoor stuff (hiking, rock climbing, sailing, etc.)

I am native English speaker, competent in Spanish and know a little French, German and Italian. I'm willing to learn the local language.

I prefer a moderate climate or at least easy access to one. For example, in Guatemala I intended to head to the highlands for the summer to take advantage of the cooler temps because the lowlands are too HOT and humid.

So, any suggestions? :)

In all honesty Scandinavian countries are truly gorgeous at this time of year...they may be cold and snowy in the winter, but believe me their summers are amazing.

Most people under 50 speak English and Scandinavia is just a very pleasant place to be. I'm moving up there at the end of the year.

I would suggest Europe, Mediterranean :
Italy, Balkan countries (cheap to live, great food, nice climate), Greece (wouldn't suggest Greece because of economic crisis), maybe France etc..
 
you can live in Indonesia with $200/month :)
 
Scandinavia sounds great and I have a friend moving to Oslo next week but I think the $600/month would be hard. I've been considering Krakow. I miss living in Europe and I loved Krakow when I visited. The Balkans have also been considered. I need to look more into visa issues I think...
 
Scandinavia would be perfect IMO, except it's pretty expensive, so maybe that won't work out.. I'd strongly suggest finding a way, though :)
 
Just be sure NOT to come to Bulgaria. Way too many visa issues, no one speaks English and it's hot as hell during the summer. Unless you can find a decent place up in the mountains - then you can rest peacefully. It's cheap too.

But I personally think the cons far outweigh the pros, given that there are similar countries with less strict visa policies.

From what I've heard (and take this with a grain of salt) Brazil is a really good place to live, but not the metropolises. But, I know it's really hard to get a visa to Brazil.

There was a thread somewhere on the forum, it was something like "The blackhat lifestyle with $100 a day". There are a lot of good suggestions there and also a lot of decent advice. Check it out.

The site is kinda slow so i can't be bothered with searching right now, but it should be fairly easy to find.
 
You were already considering Guatemala, why not another spot in Central America?

Consider Costa Rica- the average wage is about $600 per month, so you would have no problem living here with that kind of cash. If you weren't worried about excessive cat-calling in Guatemala, then you can expect about the same in Costa Rica. The weather is perfect, and the land has yet to explode.

Definitely worth checking out- I've been here for years!

I'm actually making the move to Costa when my lease is up :)

I too would recommend it!
 
Yeah, I was considering Cost Rica. I spent most of the last year living in southern mexico so I was thinking of changing it up a bit but it's still on the radar.
 
Brazil is not cheap and taxes are HIGH! its not cheap unless you live in the hood!
 
I suggest you move to my country tunisia , you're an US citizen so it's gonna be easy for you to move, you can even start your own business without paying taxes , everything is cheap , you're saying that you can speak french and that's what you need here , Very safe , weather is perfect (especially this time of the year).
 
I've been to Tunisia. It's a beautiful country. Interesting idea...
 
Try Cebu, Philippines. Cebu ranked 4th best island destination in Asia in 2009. It has 2.4 million tourist arrivals last year. White beaches, World Class Hotels, we even have 7th star hotel here, A lot of diving spots and tourist attraction. A lot of shopping malls, Night lifes, alot of disco bar here, Low crime rates, very friendly people. A lots of restaurant here specializing different cousines, italian, korean, american, spanish, japanese many to mention. The beaches, mountains, shopping malls, bars are all 15 minutes from the airport. English is our Second language here, the magasines, tv, signs are mostly in english. You can ask everyone here because they can understand you. The have a lots of internet service provider here. The average wireless broadband here cost only only $22 per month. Wifi is free in many shopping malls, cafes and hotels.

You can even start your business here. We have an area here thats has tax exemption,for Foreign business that can generate dollars and jobs. A lots of IT proffesional here. Cebu is the IT capital in the phillippines. Cebu has a very low cost of living your 600 dollar is just enough.
