Nothing is dead, it is the methods that we employ gets changed. Tweak, rinse & repeat.

Edit: just saw the next post, so it is more or less finished.

so now using tumblr to rank other website is gonna be difficult but again ranking tumblrs is gonna be same as before or even a bit easy after this update.

Tumblr is not as effective as they were used to be. But yes, ranking Tumblr is the easier than before.

Can you even read? I said nothing about SEO being dead. But having a link on a tumblr blog now, which is probably the favorite web 2.0 of many SEOs currently, is the same as nothing.

well, what I mean is that if you post a link on your blogs, while it used to be a direct link, it will now be something like:
"http://t.umblr.com/redirect?z=http%3A%2F%2FYOURLINK.COM%2Fxxxx&t=MzQwYjJkYjAwZjc3NWM3YjhiZmE2NjY1NTczNWU5YWMzMTNhZjQ1NyxiTzN2VU1iMA%3D%3D"
