    What to do..
If we do work for some one as freelancer and they did not pay.
My issue is that a company was giving me work and was paying regularly.
Suddenly they assigned me work in $$$, I've already completed the work and now they are not responding.
If there is any platform for freelance to make complain for such firms.

Can we write to google for that with proof?

Have the work report with yourself and give it to him once he does payment to you.

I was going to say freelancer too, since it's a legitimate site, they must have rules in place so people don't get screwed.

If you are part of that or not, I would think accepting the money BEFORE doing service would help, but then again, the buyer wouldn't want to get screwed either. As Morgan456 said, with a work report you can cause him trouble if he doesn't pay up.

How did you manage to place "freelancer" and "legitimate site" in the same sentence? You must have used some article spinner or something...

Sorry but I had to ROFL at that bit :D

However, it is time to get creative - what work was it you did?

Was it articles, blog creation, graphics, etc?

You didn't go through the site and busted a shady and got burned.

Chalk it up to life experience and move on.

My main concern is to avoid such mistake in future.
I want to know that in case of direct clients if they don't pay than if there is no platform where we can make complains?

If not than a big draw back for this industry.

Yes, it's called "that fucking website you picked up the work from, but didn't use as your safetynet".

The point is that i did not pick work from any website.
In real life if some one deceive us we go in court.
In internet world there is business of Trillian dollars and no platform for frauds?

It's a big bummer when you do work for someone and they don't pay, but the reality is that you have nowhere to go.

We had someone not pay us £700 (over $1000) and I thought balls to it I'm sick of this, I'm going to take them to court (in the UK you can use the small claims court, which is supposed to be cheap).

First we got a solicitor to send them a letter, cost a small fortune, no response.

Then we filed the small claims papers, that costs money too.

Then the client who hadn't paid filed a completely mad counter claim - for £5000!

Now you're in the shit - you have to spend hours putting together a really solid load of evidence for the court, and not only do you have to do this for the case you have, to get the money out of them, you have to answer their claims, no matter how mad they are otherwise if you lose you're in deep doo doo.

Then the court case got assigned to a court near the blinking client who hadn't paid, at the other end of the country, which would have meant spending £xxx on train fares and a hotel.

And at the end of all of this you have NO guarantee of winning at all.

Even if it's completely cast iron and OBVIOUS who's in the right and the wrong, the judge for whatever reason might STILL rule against you.

In the end we contacted the client and she agreed to pay us £350 so we took it.

But really we were out of pocket after all of the time and costs, but better than chasing it and ending up even more out of pocket.

So the moral is - get at least 50% of your money upfront.

I think this is a lesson that everybody could do with not having to learn, it's a tricky business being a freelancer but you are always at risk of being scammed if you don't take any form of countermeasure against it (such as obtaining 50% of your money upfront as suggested above!).
