This new free tool that just launched is pretty damn powerful. Anyone tried it yet?

TwitterMass is a clever tool that automates what many Twitter users are already doing: finding new Twitter users to follow by searching for keywords and then following the most interesting of these users.

One twist here, however, is that TwitterMass also automatically unfollows users who don't follow you back within a few days.

The point of this, of course, is to create a larger network of followers, which, because it is built on top of keyword and hashtag searches, should, at least in theory, be built on mutual interests.

Using TwitterMass couldn't be easier: you simply set up a keyword search and TwitterMass will automatically follow every user who uses this keyword.
You can also set a 'timer.' After a set number of days, TwitterMass will check if those users it added followed you back, and if they didn't, then TwitterMass will automatically unfollow them.

BTW luohan uploaded the Twitter Hummingbird tool in the Downloads section, so go grab that if you haven't yet. It's also another twitter mass follow/unfollow tool that has somewhat similar features as Twittermass.

    Excellent find Koshiro!

The days of using Twitter Krama are coming to an end due to overuse.

Twitter Mass has a nice interface and gives you a lot of control over your account(s). I'll be doing a depper dive today to check out all the features. Seems tailor made to our community, i.e. giving us the information and tools we need to be successful.

It will be interesting to see how TwitterMass is used over the next month. One of the larger problems i have seen is that the API call limit gets hit quickly with external tools of this nature.

Granted the app could be whitelisted, but even then there are thresholds which are reached quickly when submitting batch requests via the API.

Thanks Koshiro -- always impressive with what you find and post.

Im testing it, and frankly I dont see it doing anything in particular. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? How would you see whether it does something, anyway?

I noticed that too but go to dashboard and hit refresh and you api calls should have lowered hence more followers. Maybe x out then reload new browser. That might do the trick also if your at 2k mark then it wont do anything

Yeah well I always see 20000 API calls left, so I'm doing something wrong. When I manually search (in twitter dot com) for the keywords I am using I am finding lots of discussion, so... Something is wrong here, probably on my side.

Well d'oh - the website says that autofollow is being worked on. Here's the actual text from the website:

We'll be back... This feature is currently in the maintenance shop, but will be back better than ever. Look for this to be re-released on 4/17/2009.

    So we'll see.

On the plus side, I see they added a new feature, 'clone an account'. Now you can e.g. be logged in as yourself and clone Joel Comm's followers, etc. Saves a few cycles over doing this manually.

If you can, go with Hummingbird. It's a MONSTER. If you want to see what it can do, visit TwitterCounter.com and run a search on KMesiab...then switch the chart to the last three months. The follower count looks like the Millennium Falcon blasting into space.

Hummingbird is smart. It "remembers" who you've unfollowed so you don't bother following them again. Most of those who didn't bother following you back are inactive Twitter users anyway, so following them is a waste of time and just jamms up your 110% quota.

Also, if you make a habbit of following, then unfollowing, then following the same people again, you can get your account banned for "refollowing". Hummingbird prevents that too by "remembering".

Hummingbird also is light on API calls. You can follow 2000 people in one hour because it doesn't follow people by using the API.

Check out Follow Factory dot com to see all the features on this bad boy.

I am using HummingBird for batch unfollowing but not for batch following.. because I am afraid that Twitter may find Humming Bird a bot and I don't want my account to be banned.

    Anyone used it for following?

I've used it... didn't get banned or anything. As with all automated tools, use with moderation Adding a few hundred a day (less than 500 maybe) won't hurt.. if you're adding thousands a day that might trigger some flags at Twitter HQ.

I use it for both following and unfollowing. If you have a pimped profile and have about 50 Tweets posted over 48 hrs, then you should be green-for-go to use Hummingbird for both following and unfollowing.

It's buggy. I've tried with IE and Firefox but they weren't working fine. Any suggestions?
