There are so many parody accounts out there that have 800k+ Real Twitter Followers but only follow some people. Now my question is how are they doing this?? I mean even if you set up such an account and post good tweets it's not automatically make 100 thousands of people follow you. The only efficient way i know to gain a lot of followers is by mass following other people. But that's not the case with these parody account. Here is an example: @TheHistoryBook he follows just 1 person but has REAL 120.000 followers.

Does anyone know how they do this?

    Thanks

Firstly how do you know they're REAL? "Real looking" followers are available very cheap. But, building real followers is easy. Using Followback lists and a combination of sites likes Twiends and Tweepi you can easily build them up.

I know that they are real cause he gets around 150+ retweets right after he posts a tweet. and his tweets aren't even that good.

There's a service on BHW that offers exactly that. Fake but "real looking" followers favourite and retweet the account's tweets for a monthly cost.

Most of the time they follow....... and then unfollow and people are dumb enough not to notice.

They have big accounts that RT the parody accounts. I can confirm because I have one account following no one with 10k real followers

I have a parody and it does great. Most of the people that I follow don't know it is fake and believe it to be the real thing. Great thing to have

Realize that accounts trade promotions to build a following. I know the guy that owns the HistoryBook account, and he promotes it often on his other accounts.

Maybe that twitter account also uses paid retweets. You can't be sure of that whether they are real. Who would retweet a not so good post

A person paid to do so. You're exactly right. There's a lot of "maybes" when checking how an account has so many followers.

    You're right , there are a lot of maybe's.

However, there are ways that I check to see if the account does indeed have legit folllowers or not:

Check the Klout scores. The amount of followers you have will not affect the number. I believe MOZ (or someone) did this study.
See if the followers/following ratio of RT'ers are in range.
Check their bitly click stats. If you have an account with 50k+ but only gets 100 at a reasonably busy time, something is not right.

Even then, it's not always 100% possible to tell if an account has legitimate followers or not, but the way I inspect them like this, I can always tell if their followers are real or not.

People are more likely to follow an account that has more followers.

So, if an account buys followers, real people are going to follow.

In my region there are hilarious parody accounts....the richest guy, the latest fashion model, the President, etc....they are absolutely hilarious.

One of the most popular accounts here mocks the soap operas so people actually watch TV with Twitter by their side. So I can say lots of the parodies have real followers....

Yeah, make it look absolutely real, then in some part of the description you add some subtle note about it being a parody.
