Hi, so I wanted to pick up a book to read at work when I days get slow and I seen a lot of people on here recommending "Think and grow Rich". So I started today reading and got through the preface where he keeping talking about some great secret hidden in the book and read maybe 3 pages of the first chapter and I'm starting to think that all the great secret is just if you believe then you will succeed or something like that. So is that basically all the book is about, is that all the next 200 pages are going to be about or is there more to get? If it is basically just all about that, then what's the difference between this and all the other self books saying the same, like well, The Secret?

Basically I am just wondering if I already won in finding out the big secret and if there if there is really any reason to keep reading and move on to a better book?

My suggestion. Quick looking for the secret because frankly it does not exist.
For your spare time at work you can try to browse BHW on your phone. Don't be afraid to dig through old
post here to learn more incredible knowledge than any book.

    All the best

I can't tell you how to become rich because I'm not rich myself but I can tell you how to be successful

    1. Believe you will succeed
    2. Develop a plan to succeed
    3. execute the plan to succeed
    4. Don't be afraid to fail
    5. Embrace failure
    6. Learn from failure.
    7. Repeat steps 1-6

You will find that sooner or later everything you touch will turn to gold.

Success is in your mindset at putting that mindset into action.

The secret exists... and that secret is YOU!
YOU are the biggest secret of this universe. YOU are the most powerful thing on the planet... YOU can achieve whatever your mind thinks of.

BHW is a great forum and there are some great threads (must read) but let me be honest here... Those books do have something in them or they won't sell millions of copies... Knowledge is power and there is no better source of knowledge than books.

OP, here is sort of a tl;dr of the book:

    Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. And I didn't go in to the book looking for the secret, I just read that a lot of people liked it on here. Before going in to i was thinking it was going to be more of a bussinse book, not a self help book. So I a just making sure that all it is, is just a self help book trying to teach you the power of believing and I'm not missing out on anything more by stopping now.

Some people find motivation in books like that. If you're the kind of guy who loves to read, then why not?

Go for it. Some might disagree with me, but there are really people who needs to read motivational stuff before they can start focusing on their own plans. If the OP is one of them, then by all means read the book. :)

Just don't forget to follow the friendly tips some of the guys here did AFTER you read the book. :D

How many people "give up" because it is logical to do so and how many do so because their emotions make them feel like a failure? The reality is that if you feel like something would be a success before you begin, why on earth would you stop half way through?

Look at cold calling for example. Do people give up because they can't make any more calls or because they don't believe in themselves and are afraid of the next rejection from the next imaginary call?

It should be obvious. The short answer is yes if you fully believe you will be successful and act on those ideas, it is inevitable.

You have to really know about psychology to understand. For example look up Pygmalion effect, self efficacy etc. It really has to do with your mindset. :D
