    Hello all!

I am new to BHW and new to the world of creating your own website. I have read several other posts and done a few weeks worth of research. I am looking to start my on dance music blog and I have a name in mind. By simply searching and typing in the name of the site I would like "SweetBeats" nothing seems to come up, yet several domain buying sites have this domain name as registered.

I have contacted the person that owns the domain name and he is very noncompliant. He acknowledges that he does not use the site and has written this to me, "my carrying cost is $7/yr" after I submitted a $25 offer after seeing that the site has literally no statistics registered. He also said, "you'll have to do better than that. >$500 min".

Experts out there. What are your suggestions on how to deal with the situation?

    Leave him.
LOL, let him keep that domain and see if anyone make an offer.

I kinda like the name. Seems to me though that it is an easy decision. Figure out the max you are willing to pay and try to negotiate. No way I would accept 25.00 IMHO.

Thanks. I knew there was no way that he would accept $25. I'm just baffled as to why he expects $500min. for a site that is nonexistent.

He registered the domain name with Moniker. I've heard some sketchy stuff about them... that also makes me very hesitant.

Anyways, I wouldn't pay much more than $25 seeing that I can just work around with the wording for the site's name an get it for cheaper.

    Boston166,

Nothing wrong with Moniker, they're one of the better Registrars. Majority of their clientele are Domain Professionals, holding large portfolio of properties. Just like the holder of "SweatBeats".

Most Pros have portfolios with 10K+ Domains, some in the 100Ks numbers. They're not hurting to sale them, very few are motivated to sale at all. You have to think of Domains as virtual real estate. And if you think the renewal fees are a burden think again. 20% of his portfolio is covering at least his entire renewal cost exposure - usually the case.

Very few will get out of bed for less than $2K these days so consider $500 a decent starting point. The best you'll probably end up negotiating the guy down to is $200 - which actually isn't a bad price considering the brand play you'd be picking up.

Oh, I completely understand that. The problem is I'm 18, I'm in college and I don't have that kind of money to put down simply for the domain name. I'm brainstorming different names I can use. If you guys have any suggestions I'd love to hear them.

Currently I'm doing lots of research and trying find out whats the most effective way to start up my site, while keeping costs at a minimum. So help... helps.

Well said. Boston166, how much money will you be planning to make from the blog? It's a great name actually but if you're going to be small time and the name will not be gaining you much then you have to consider whether it's worth it.

I completely understand where you're coming from. I have an idea, it's a long shot but worth at least a try. With Christmas just around the corner too you may have better odds attempting this now -

    Email the guy this -

    ----
I'm 18 and fresh out of HS. I really, really, really like this Domain. I realize $500 isn't much but to me it is. I really could give this Domain a good home. I propose a win/win and I hope you'll please consider it. Would you allow me use of the Domain for the next 3 months at no cost, keep it under your own account, just update the NS settings? I promise and will sign off if needed on how I won't abuse the property, it's use, and everything will be 100% above board. (OR give him a good idea on how you're going to use it here instead of the "promise" last sentence). After 3 months, staring April 1st, I start paying you $20/month leasing/to/own it and then after 24/months of payments give you a $1 buy out. Upon last payment you push ownership of the Domain to me within Moniker. And so you don't think I'm full of sh*t and I seem to know what I'm offering, I had some advice on how to approach you from another Domain Pro on a forum. He mentioned sometimes you guys make exceptions to your pricing structures, giving us young guys starting off a break. And he gave me a crash course on leasing/to/owns. Thanks and I look forward to your response.
    ----

If he has a heart he'll cut you a break and do the deal. Feel free to PM me if you need anymore help on it.

Are you suggesting a payment plan instead of the $500 all at once? That would still come out to nearly $500 dollars.
Well from everything I've been reading on BHW I need to create content and build a fan base first. Considering the blog I currently work on (fromdjs4djs was ranked top 30,000 website in the US at one point) has had some pretty big success I think that I can turn a nice profit after a few months.. But then again I'm not really sure what are the best methods? Ads, Selling stuff, I definitely want to avoid the surveys... Still brainstorming that part.

You see, that's the hard part. When I first emailed him he replied very unprofessionally. It came off as rude. No capitals, full sentences, etc. I get the vibe that he really does not want to sell it!

Then forget it. Do you really need sweetbeats.com? Think of something else. Go to instantdomainsearch.com and find something else that you like. It's not rocket science.

He wasn't being rude, you have to think about it this way - He's probably fielding 100 inquiries a day. You're probably lucky to even gotten a response. Don't assume he won't deal with you, responding at all is a good sign.

Feel free to drop me a PM on his info I bet money I know the guy. I know majority of the major players. I may be able to lend a hand.
