Ok i have an ecommerce website and received an email from someone wanting to buy a phone, and willing to make payment right away but it looks kind of fishy to me.

    --------------------------------

I will go with your price, Actually i am from Altanta GA and am currently on a field trip, but want to purchase it for my daughter that is currently working with America Embassy in West Africa, her birthday is coming up next Friday, I promised her a surprise gift and this happened to be what I want. I have a PayPal account and can pay you right away, it's secure and protects two parties in a transaction. if you do have paypal account, send me a Payment request of $427 which will cover the cost price, shipping and insurance to ship to my daughter's destination. Once you send the request i will proceed with the payment. My verified paypal account @ xxxxxxxxxgmail.com I will forward my daughter's residential address to you for shipping as soon as the payment gets to you. Sincerely Waiting. Hxxxxxxd Lxxxxxxxxe

Man...thats about the oldest of the old west african scams. They usually ask you to put a nice birthday card with the phone for your daughter and they will pay extra.

This is the oldest one out there. Whatever they are paying with will be cashed with no problem until it is discovered that it is fake, then you will have to pay all the money.

If you do this, cal;l paypal on the phone and make sure their information is legit.

Its a scam, and if you do it, you are going to get bit.

Tell him you can only ship after receiving a cleared cheque...as hes from Atlanta that wont be a problem.....guaranteed you wont hear off him again.

At the lowest level he does a chargeback(and wins) if you want to learn a bit more about scams I recommend this site http://www.419eater.com/

I deal with scammer daily - most likely on the phone.
If you are experienced with customers, you will know they ALWAYS think of theirselves and NEVER from your perspective. They would naturally never feel the need of a long explanation why to buy this way or that way, they usual say "I want it this way and if not, piss off".
Lets look your at your mail (boldened are the parts where he explains something):

Why should a customer tell you that?

    One thing to think of:

It might feel good to land a good deal (in my case it is most likely not 500 but 5000), but always think in the same moment how stupid and silly you feel, if you get the mail from paypal or your credit card provider that this payment is blocked because someone claimed his card as stolen or did not authorize the transaction. I have been in this situation with a 10K deal, I felt safe because the scammer was from Dubai and I never had fraudulent tries from there before.

Another tip if it is a high amount order: Lookup the shipping adress in Google Streetview. I had an 2K order from UK , looked the adress and it was a very fishy haven district.

"America Embassy"? A grammar mistake like that from an American?

I will join the rest and call scam on this one. The grammar mistake is not the only problem btw, just one no American will ever make.
