    Hi Guys,

Im currently from the UK, im 19 years old, but ever since i was young iv wanted to live in america (im practically an american) and i absolutely LOVE Orlando!! As soon as i get home from a holiday, i want to go back ..

I have University now, and graduate in 3 years, and as soon as i do, im coming over asap (if i can get a visa that is)

I was just wondering if anybody here lives/has lived in Florida (Not just Orlando) and if it is a good place to move to, from the UK!

    Cheers

Just like any place, Florida has good and bad sides. Some nice places can be very expensive to live. Lots of high crime areas. Lots of immigrants working for less pay than you can live on.

I've known a kid quite a while ago who finished uni in the UK, and went to live in Florida, well he did tell me that it's a great place and he has been moving quite a while through the states, so I don't know if he actually stayed in Florida.

But after all, US is the best place to live.

    I live in South, Florida....

It's a Love/Hate relationship..... Miami has a high cost of living. But if you can afford it and live comfortable it is a beautiful place. Miami/Broward are the two most diverse cities here. Being from out of the country...... You'll love Miami......

There is no "state" income tax in Florida, if that's what you're referring to. We also do not pay taxes on food products at grocery stores.

Thanks for all your replies guys :) .. i always knew there would be crime, and a 'bad side' to florida, there is no state in america which doesnt have it, but looking at all the 'good side' it seems like a great place to live'

@GreenGoblin - the south beach women are one of my biggest motives to move to miami ;) lol

What about Hurricanes?? Do they hit very often, and how much impact can they have on your day to day lives??

I love Florida, definitely! Lived in Miami for two years but had to leave for various not so great reasons, hope to be able to come back one day very soon. Downsides: the humidity and for me personally I don't like dealing with snakes and lizards.. any kind of reptiles basically. But overall it's just a fantastic place and very nice folks!
    You'll enjoy it very much!

Hurricanes come every few years.... But at least we know they are coming, unlike earthquakes....

The nightlife here is awesome. Miami never closes. 24/7.

Crime, c'mon... not different than anywhere else. Actually I always felt very safe no matter what.

Hurricanes, well... better than earthquakes, isn't it? :p

Great place to live! Recommended highly, but as others mentioned can be a little high for cost of living. It all depends on what you are expecting out of the place and what you like to do, your lifestyle, etc....I personally like the fact that it doesn't snow. Some would disagree...

what do you mean "I'm practically an american" ?
You have to change your accent from british accent to american accent though.

I first lived in S Florida but didn't really fit after a while, just kinda dirty lotta stuck up bitches, etc.

Moved to N Florida - Jax Beach and fit much better loved it great place. Kind of a more west coast mentality, laid back people, cheaper.

you have tropical storms, every so often..and Hurricane warnings most of the times the Hurricane warnings are tropical storms, but i rather a Hurricane something the news reporters can track then a earth quake something that just happens all of a sudden, at least it gives you time to leave the city and head up north.

as far as the south beach women, MAN O MAN! i love every minute of it, the beach is nice also, South Beach is a tourist attraction to it stays live till about 5 in the morning, then it dies out for about 2 hours then 8 oclock it's live again. :D def a place i would tell u to visit before u decide to move there but great place to live. 1 thing i HATE! when i do go to Miami is going during a Miami heat game, the traffic is stand still if it takes you 15 minutes to get somewhere u can bet it will take you 2 hours with miami traffic, and another thing...Floridians can't drive remember you heard that from me. I'm originally from Virginia and i never seen such $hitty drivers.

Make sure you check out "Club Space" in Miami. :)

Or Club "King of Diamonds" if you are into strip clubs. :p

Once again, thanks for all the replies .. Its pretty obvious that you all favour a move there, so what im going to do is at the end of term, im going to rent an apartment for maybe a month, and live their during the summer, to see if its right for me .. the good thing about IM is that i can do it anywhere on the planet as long as it has internet access :p

And about the cost of living .. Man, im form the UK!!! .. Petrol, insurance, food, drink its all twice as expensive here than over there .. when i visit the states, im constantly shocked at the price of everything .. as an example, in florida, you can buy 24 cans of coke for $5 .. where im from, 12 cans will cost about £4 (£8 for 24) its insane!
