    Hey
i have 3 or 4 unsecured wifi networks that show up on my laptop, although they only show 1 bar and its hard for me to connect,is there anyway to improve the signal from my wireless card? I have tried all those dumb vidoes around (making a dish out of aluminum foil and poking it through the card) and none of them work.

I have been searching for days and even went out anf bought a brand new card, and still i get a weak signal.

    Any tips ?

There are powerful antennas for wifi cards, that should work

    have you tried a cantenna?

basically it's a receiver hooked to your computer that's inside a pringles tube that catches the signals and draws them into the tube making a better connection by gathering more of the signal.

this guy take's it a step further and i'm sure this would give you amazing connectivity.

I have a couple of these coming.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...3168071&cm_re=engenius-_-33-168-071-_-Product

EnGenius EOC2611P 802.11b/g Outdoor Client Bridge/Access Point with Dual Antenna Polarity up to 108Mbps/ 600mW High Power for Long Range

$75 bucks, supposedly you can point a few together with external antenna attached and hit 16 miles line of sight..

I'm going to try to hit my wifi, 1200 feet away, and if I happen to hit the local McDonald's, maybe ill barrow there wifi instead.

all i have to say is vmware + backtrak 4 = internet, or what you could do, is get a really long male to female usb cable and run it outside as far as you can and see if you get a good signal

haha that reminds me where I used to work across the street was one of ATT network services stations and I made friends with one of the guys.
He told me that if I can reach the wifi that is on the top three floors it's wide open. SO I build a cantenna kinda like that and we had free wifi for the night crew. We would set it up after the bosses left.
The pic just put a big smile on my face hehe

I read in a tech forum where this kid used to war drive around renaming the ssid's the most offensive things he could think of. It started some serious finger pointing in the neighborhood. "Your wife is a whore" That was one of them.

Check these out. Anything above 6 dbi gain should get you what you want.

    Code:
    hxxp://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=antenna&x=0&y=0

LoS antennas max out at about 7 nautical miles due to the curvature of the earth. You may experience different results based on the geographical features of your local area.
