    hxxp://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/06/30/acetaminophen.fda.hearing/index.html

    From the article...

A government advisory panel voted Tuesday to recommend eliminating prescription drugs that combine acetaminophen with narcotics -- such as Vicodin and Percocet -- because of their risk for overdose and for severe liver injury.

"Pain affects 75 million Americans, more than diabetes, cancer and heart disease combined" and added that it would follow the FDA's final determination.

Most of these patients were prescribed one of these 2 drugs to deal with their pain.

This is a big deal. Though thinking of ways to monetize this, I can't think of anything legal or even moral.

ps. where you at scarlet pimp? ;)

This is good! The main active ingredient in vicodon is hydrocodone, not tylonel(acetaminophen)

This means vicodon and percs will be safer to abuse(if they start making them without the tylonol, probably will be under another name), because the tynlonol in them is what makes it dangerous to take too many. I know I enjoyed my vics when I had some, so for drug enthusiasts like myself, this really isnt a bad thing

you got it backwards man. acetaminophen is in tylenol and acetaminophen is what they're taking off the market.

They're even requiring Tylenol, NyQuil, and other over-the-counter meds to reduce acetaminophen levels.

Also they're eliminating Vicoden and Percoset, not changing them. Also the generic brands are going away too.

My advice? Write some articles on AC and then short sell Tylenol's stock. Then take a "business" trip to mexico and pick up a pile of Vics and Percs and come back and find there nearest retirement community

This is the first I've heard about the ban, but if you guys don't think me too sick, I'd link it to Jackson somehow.

    Guys... Acetaminophen = Tylenol.

This sounds like they're going to fight medications that combine themselves with Acetaminophen.

"A government advisory panel voted Tuesday to recommend eliminating prescription drugs that combine acetaminophen with narcotics -- such as Vicodin and Percocet -- because of their risk for overdose and for severe liver injury."

AKA Any drug like Percocet or Vicodin (which inherently has ~500 mg of Acetaminophen) will probably be produced with only the opiate ingrediant - aka Oxycodone and Hydrocodone, respectively.

I'm totally for this. I didn't read the article and HIGHLY doubt this action will take place within the next 3-5 years, but I support it 100%. To deny that people will abuse drugs like Hydrocodone or Oxycodone is ignorant. If we exclude Acetaminophen (Tylenol) in their composition then we can not only prescribe Tylenol when needed and then ensure anyone taking the medications will not hurt themselves.

I worked at a pharmacy for 2 years and planned to become a pharmacist, but my love for opiates (Hydrocodone) proved to get the best of me [I left on my own behalf]. I was informed so I found ways to hinder my intake of Acetaminophen, but the average Joe wouldn't know that 4.0 grams is the maximum Tylenol intake a day.

I was at a good equiv. intake of FORTY 5/500 Vicodin pills a day, but since I was quasi-informed I didn't permanently destroy my liver... yet.

Yeah, I agree thats what I was saying in my post. I don't know why they put all that tylenol in the pills anyway, it's stupid. If people want tylenol theres no reason they cant take it separately...

    # Panel votes to kill prescription drugs that combine acetaminophen, narcotics
    # Panel advises lower maximum doses of nonprescription acetaminophen drugs

The way I read it is they're not changing vicoden/percoset, they're removing them completely. Also wth man? We really don't want to hear about your drug addiction.

Acetaminophen is not the main active ingredient in vicodon and percs, so they could change them and not remove them completely or they will make them under a different name(with out the acetaminophen)

And what the fuck are you complaining about? his input on his drug use was actually really relevant to the issue. His post was probably the best in the thread...

'...Well, as I can get any meds over the counter in Thailand without prescription and wholesale from a Pharmacy-supplies warehouse not a 20-minute drive from my house, this is good news...and if customers are happy with generic meds, they cost pennies and are just as good.

    I'm already on it.

Made a killing on disposable face masks since the swine-flu epidemic so let's hope this is as good...probably better as you don't get addicted to face masks.

    Thanks for the news update.

    Thank you, TheInternetHustler.

I'm sorry to you, ForeverNever, if my personal experiences upset you or rubbed you the wrong way.

But, again, I will say the opiates Hydrocodone and Oxycodone will almost N-E-V-E-R be removed from the market anytime soon. They are too helpful to individuals suffering from pain, and, to be honest, too big a market for poppy seed farmers (and others directly involved) to leave.

They will NOT drop the opiates and leave them. They will only, like TheInternetHustler and I said, drop the dangerously high levels of Acetaminophen. They will either drop the Tylenol content or make Hydrocodone and/or Oxycodone in their own form...

If they do make a Hydrocodone/Oxycodone pill only though... man o man.... I can only surmise that the percentage of population already addicted will definitely increase.

Or they will completely drop percocet and vicodin and replace them with meds without apap or even something with an NSAID.

Roxicodone/oxycontin are pills with just oxycodone.
You can get pills with just hydrocodone in them up to 110mg i beleive but its from a compounding pharmacy and very rare and difficult to get prescribed.
