What do you think? Could it be a black hat killer?

I personally think the idea of only providing results from a limited number of "pre-approved" sites is horrible, even if it weeds out some lower quality sites. But, doing a quick Blekko search, I'm seeing plenty of spammy sites. They're obviously using a computer algorithm, even though they say the results are human approved.

Hah... Get my Indians ready. Check.

To bad I don't think they have a market share to make it worthwhile.

Well they just launched. But they have millions in backing to promote it, a lot more money than all the failed G competitors had.

The name Blekko is terrible, though.

Hmm, I am not so sure. I give Kooday a good chance at becoming a serious competitor.

Blekko is very much like an unwanted present not likely to be around very long!

Just an initial buzz then blekko will hit the bankrupt button inside 6 months!

Unless they bring the search algorithms to the next level or invent some revolutionary techniques I hardly see it being successful in the short term. In the long term nobody knows, but still it seems kinda unlikely. Catching up with the search technology google has developed in the past 10 years is hard for everybody even for companies that have been in the same game for longer than google. Plus search algorithms are bitches because they improve the more data they get or, to say it better, the more queries they receive the more their developers can tweak and refine the algorithms. Again in this area catching up with google in the short term seems to me very unlikely and if it's hard for M$+Yahoo I tend to foresee lots of difficulties for a startup no matter how much funding money their investors shelled out initially. Last thing not to be overlooked is the average user's habits. In my experience ppl start complaining if you move an OK button in an interface 10 pixels above to where they're used to... So I don't think google needs to fret for a while... P.S. The name really sucks, worse than cuil... lol :)

Sorry, but their search results really suck. I ran a couple searches and many of the results have nothing to do with what I was looking for.

I seriously doubt that they will soon get anywhere near Bing, Yahoo or Google.

Thanks to OP for posting - I always enjoy getting the latest news here on BHW! :)

Another wasted domain. I have their tool bar though. It's pretty good to instantly check up on sites.

Its not very good, it relies on users applying search term tags which they and other members create to help define what sites / additional parameters are met when searching.

Job Bob mouthbreather is not going to use an engine like that. Though if the idea proves popular, Google implementing a similar intelligent web slashing system into GoogleMe wouldn't surprise me.

Think about the number of different topics websites cover..
think about how often new websites are created that may be a better source than the previous one(S).

they can't possibly keep up with human review

Yes agreed, just not possible for humans to keep up with the millions of new pages created daily, so they'll have to use some algorithms which means they're just another search engine.

Google is a complete joke and they have monopolized too much already.

However, Blekko is just an Epic Fail based on their name alone.
