Lightbulb YouTube Start Up & Optimization Guide

YouTube is one of the simplest things to use and yet, many people don't realize how to optimize videos appropriately.

First off, when picking a title for your video, be sure to research your keyword in BOTH Google and YouTube. There are many times when your YouTube video can end up ranking high on Google because the competition on Google is already pretty low and easy to rank for.
You can even use it to rank a video as it's own "micro niche site"

There are many guides here on how to use Google Keyword Tool, so I won't get into that.

The YouTube Keyword Tool is located here: https://ads.youtube.com/keyword_tool

Now when you are using the tool, be sure to use EXACT searches in the MATCH TYPE just as you would do in the Google Keyword Tool.

Now, when you have the proper keyword researched, you just need to use that keyword in every aspect of your video. When you have the video uploaded, be sure to include the keyword within these 3 aspects:
    Title
    Description
    Tags

Many people say to use the tags of the top videos there... yes, it might help. But, if you can be more targeted and just use the tag for the keyword you WANT to rank for, it's probably better.
I have personally done a test and if you just have one tag (which is the keyword) as the tag and title and then have a nicely done description with the keyword, it tends to rank high because it's targeted.

Many times, people upload a video with a link, but don't see any conversions. Youtube has it's own video editor which allows you to put in a little comment that overlays your video. USE THAT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE!
You can easily just persuade a person by putting some phrase which makes them want to click the link instead of watching the whole video.

For example, I did so in my video for Halo 4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhCJgLNwKPk
I get a conversion rate of about 12%, although, I don't get very many clicks due to the video quality (i was testing it out ).

Those three aspects: title, tag, description, are not the only things that will help you get ranked high. It is good if you can get some start up views from anywhere and try to get some likes and comments. I personally outsource this on fiverr.
Be sure to get QUALITY comments, the more engaging comments you have, the better user input you will get and comments will just come your way without you doing anything.
Be sure not to have more likes and comments than the amount of views you have. It could possibly lead to you being flagged and it just makes your video look suspicious. Gradually increase the likes and comments in accordance to your views.
You can use Vagex to get views to start up.

People have been asking a lot about youtube SEO and what they should do. It's simple, do SEO as if you were doing it for your websites. Except, with YouTube, you can use spammy links like forum profiles and it still works out well.

For all those videos in my channel, I outsourced to a fiverr gig that gave 10,000 backlinks (xrumer blast) and usually after a few days I saw a jump in the rankings.
I haven't tested out doing more SEO towards it like link pyramids, wheels, etc. But, i'm sure they work very well.

Think about it though, if you rank high on youtube and build backlinks to your video, it gives you a chance to also rank high for that keyword on Google.

So, once you're ranked up high, you can just sit back, relax, watch the traffic just pull in. Be aware though, YouTube is jumpy. There are days when my videos don't show up on page 1, then the next day it is #1.

Here's a little bonus tip that I found with my links... use Google's link shortener for links in your description. When I had it shortened with Google's shortener, my videos ranked high. But, when I switched them to bit.ly for about a week, they went WAY down in rankings and the day I switched them back, it went back up. I think Google links to see it's own services being used and not the competition

Feel free to add on if you have something to share.

Thanks! Yeah, it seems a lot of people didn't know about the keyword tool. They kept it pretty low-key :P

No. You don't need to. If you want to just link to the offer it shows youtube as the referrer and I don't think CPA networks take that as a bad thing

You can if you want to though. Also, you could link to a landing page instead if you so desire.

It can be dodgy using any type of link shortener especially with clickbank links. Some clickbank links get automatically flagged as being "potentially problematic".

Also, try and post video responses on the videos that rank high for your keyword.

Also, the ability of your video to engage your audience and keep them watching is important.

This is what YT uses to measure a videos "relevance" to a certain keyword

    Nice extra tips.
Having a good engaging video is KEY towards getting more clicks. My videos weren't like that which lead to little clicks, but yes, it definitely helps for conversions.

Yeah. The iPad offer doesn't have a 12% conversion rate, but the halo 4 offer does.

You could always change your old videos too
Youtube allows you to change the desc, keywords, etc. even after it's been posted.

Lets assume that i can get 1000 people every month all over the u.s and canada that have to complete my CPA offers In order for them to get access to whatever they were looking for, do i STILL get paid by the CPA companies? this seems way too easy to do.

What you're talking about is incentive CPA. There are networks that allow this such as Adscend Media. But, you could use Content Locker Pro (located here at BHW) and blank the referrer to use offers from non-incentive networks.
You can still get paid, just be sure the CPA network you are with allows incentive traffic.

You can easily do that with YouTube, many people use YouTube to promote videos about tv shows or things that people would want to see / get really badly. So, when the users see the video that shows a preview of the product / show, they are tempted to go to the link to watch the show or get the product and that's where you put in your content locker to make them fill out an incentive offer to get access.
It's a simple concept and it does work.

It doesn't always work. Google always changes the way it ranks things.
It may be possible that those links weren't indexed.

It may not always work, but it won't hurt either.
You can rank the videos by doing regular SEO as you would with a site.

Nice tips, especially google shortner. Do you actually use youtube as a main source of income? Do you have another channel?

And hows Vagex, free? And enhanceviews()net?

Atm, no, but I am working on scaling it to make it my main income.
Vagex I believe is free, but I would rather buy a few hundred views to get the video started.

awesome guide. quick question though. some people spam keywords related to their niche. others put just a couple phrases. does putting a crapload of relevant keyword tags rank your video higher. or maybe make it easier to find when it comes to related videos?

From my experience, it's better to just have a single keyword or two. But, if you are blasting with multiple videos and want to do it quickly, it's probably best to have a few extra keywords.

Okay great. I just wanted some quick clarification..

I did a music cover of a song by Drake. The song is called 'take care'. So, would I simply put the title as "Drake - Take Care" (without quotes) and in the tag section, put "drake take care" and "drake"?

Yeah. That's how you would do it. Be sure to include Drake - Take Care within the description as well.

Forgot to mention that when you're using Goo.gl (google url shortener), they may block affiliate links (they block Peerfly from what I've seen). To get around that, make a simple subdomain or page and have it redirect to the offer and goo.gl will accept it
